A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY,
CALIFORNIA, DONATING $15,000 TO THE TEMPLE CITY HIGH SCHOOL
MARCHING BAND AND PAGEANTRY CORP. FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE 2015
TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE.
WHEREAS, the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California is known as America's
New Year Celebration and is one of the most notable and prominent parades in America, consistently
having more than 1 million spectators line the parade route, and is viewed by tens of millions of viewers
on television internationally; and,
WHEREAS, selection for participation in the Parade is extremely competitive with bands judged
on musicianship, marching ability, uniqueness, entertainment value, and ability to perform a field type
show with marching; and,
WHEREAS, the Temple City High School Marching Band and Pageantry Corp. has been
selected to participate in the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade, but must raise its own funds to pay the
costs associated with participation; and,
WHEREAS, the Temple City High School Marching Band and Pageantry Corp. has requested
that the City of Temple City support its effort to participate in the Parade by donating $15,000 to be used
toward covering the costs of uniforms, instruments, transportation and logistics related to the Parade;
and,
WHEREAS, participation of the Temple City High School Marching Band and Pageantry Corp. in
the Parade is a source of tremendous community pride, provides an invaluable experience for band
members and their families who reside in Temple City, and generally contributes to the good welfare of
the citizens of Temple City and positive notoriety of the City of Temple City.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Temple City does hereby resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. Finding. The City Council finds that a donation of $15,000 to the Temple City High
School Marching Band and Pageantry Corps. fulfills a public purpose and provides the public benefits
enumerated above.
SECTION 2. Donation. The City Council hereby approves and does donate the sum of $15,000 to the
Temple City High School Band Boosters, on behalf of the Temple City High School Marching Band and
Pageantry Corp. for the express purpose of paying its costs of participating in the 2015 Tournament of
Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, including but not limited to, paying for the cost of uniforms,
instruments, transportation, and logistics support related to the Parade.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on this 15`" day of April, 2014.
