RESOLUTION NO. 23-077
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-
LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER TO
TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO RE-ESTABLISH THE ARABIAN
NIGHTS FESTIVAL IN 2024, ESTABLISH A BUDGET AND SEEK
ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPLEMENT THE EVENTS
BUDGET; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The City of Opa-Locka's Founder, Glenn Curtiss, designed the City of
Opa-Locka ("City") with Moorish style architecture based on the Arabian Nights Theme;
and
WHEREAS, the City has traditionally held an annual Arabian Nights Festival as a
celebration of entertainment, arts, crafts and various foods for the residents and visitors
to Opa-Locka and the surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interest of the City and its
residents to direct the Interim City Manager to take all necessary steps to re-establish the
Arabian Night Festival in the year 2024 year; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission hereby directs the Interim City Manager to roll over
$50,000 already included in the FY 2022-2023 budget (unused) for the Arabian Nights
Festival for Fiscal Year 2023-2024, and allocate an additional $50,000 for the FY 2023-2024
budget for a total of $100,000 for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is further directed to seek additional grant funding to
supplement the event's budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. RECITALS
The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION
The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby directs the Interim City Manager
to take all necessary steps to re-establish the Arabian Night Festival in the year 2024,
including directing the Interim City Manager to roll over the $50,000 already included in
the FY 2022-2023 budget for the Arabian Nights Festival for Fiscal Year 2023-2024, and
also allocate an additional $50,000 for the FY 2023-2024 budget for a total budgeted
amount of $100,000 for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024.

SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS
Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of
typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized
by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of
public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the
Governor or Governor's Designee.

It is recommended the City Commission approve legislation directing the Interim City Manager to take all
necessary steps to re-establish the Arabian Night Festival in 2024, including incorporating $100,000 of City
funds into the FY 24 Proposed Annual Budget and seeking additional grant funding to supplement the event's
budget.
