RESOLUTION NO. 23-043
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY
MANAGER TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE SOUTH FLORIDA
SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE AUTISM AWARENESS WALK;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the South Florida School of Excellence is an educational center located
in the Municipal Complex, within the City of Opa-Locka, that specializes in gifted and
autistic education; and
WHEREAS, the school hosts an annual walk known as the South Florida School
of Excellence Autism Awareness Walk ("Walk") to educate the community about autism
and provide special recognition to the special needs families in our community and the
teachers who educate special needs children every day; and
WHEREAS, to ensure the safety and security of the participants and encourage
the community to be a part of the Walk, the City Commission desires to direct the Interim
City Manager to provide technical assistance and financial support for the Walk in an
amount to be determined appropriate by the City Manager and from a source determined
to be appropriate for funding the Walk; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interests of the City and its
residents to direct the Interim City Manager to provide technical assistance and financial
support for the South Florida School of Excellence Autism Awareness Walk.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED.
The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION
The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka, Florida hereby directs the Interim
City Manager to provide technical assistance and financial support for the Walk in an
amount to be determined appropriate by the City Manager and from a source determined
to be appropriate for funding the Walk.

SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS
Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of
typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized
by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of
public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the
Governor or Governor's Designee.

Short Title:
A resolution directing the Interim City Manager to provide support for the South Florida School of Excellence
(SFSE) Annual Autism Awareness Walk.
Staff Summary:
The South Florida School of Excellence is an educational center located in the Municipal Complex that
specializes in gifted and autistic education. The school hosts an annual walk to educate the community about
autism and provide special recognition to the special needs families in our community and the teachers who
educate the special needs children every day. To ensure the safety and security of the participants and
encourage our community to be a part of the walk, the Interim City Manager shall provide technical assistance
and support for this event.
Financial Impact - A budget of $5,000 will be established to provide support for this event and will be funded
from savings from vacant positions.
Proposed Action
Staff recommends the City Commission approve the legislation directing the Interim City Manager to provide
support for the South Florida School of Excellence (SFSE) Annual Autism Awareness Walk.
