Pulido, City Manager(, By: Peggy Kuo, City Clerk SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. 13-4917, RESOLUTION NO. 13-4918 AND RESOLUTION NO. 13-4919 CONFIRMING APPOINTMENTS TO THE PLANNING, PARKS AND RECREATION, AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to: a) Adopt proposed Resolution No. 13-4917 (Attachment "A") confirming the appointment of John Cordes, Patrick Horton, and Albert Leung to the Planning Commission with the term of office ending June 30, 2015; b) Adopt proposed Resolution No. 13-4918 (Attachment "B") confirming the appointment of Nanette Fish, Robert Lopez, and Joanne Rosso to the Parks & Recreation Commission with the term of office ending June 30, 2015; and c) Adopt proposed Resolution No. 13-4919 (Attachment "C") confirming the appointment of Jim Clift, Serge Haddad, and Nicholas Stratis to the Public Safety Commission with the term of office ending June 30, 2015. BACKGROUND: 1. On May 7, 2013, City Council established the Commission Application Review Ad Hoc Committee. Mayor Sternquist appointed Councilmember Chavez and Vizcarra to the Ad Hoc Committee. 2. On May 8, 2013, staff advertised the Commission openings on the City's website, Civic Center notice board, bi-monthly City Manager's Report and Temple City Tribune. A total of 20 applications were received by the May 31, 2013, 6 p.m. application deadline. City Council June 18, 2013 Page 2 of 3 3. On June 3, 2013, Commission Appointment Ad Hoc Committee (i.e., Councilmember Chavez and Vizcarra) reviewed the 20 applications and directed staff to set up interviews with 11 of the applicants. 4. On June 4 and 5, 2013, the Commission Appointment Ad Hoc Committee interviewed 11 commission applicants. 5. On June 4, 2013, Commission Appointment Ad Hoc Committee selected the six final applicants to interview in front of full City Council on June 7 at 3:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber. 6. On June 7, 2013, City Council appointed John Cordes, Patrick Horton and Albert Leung to the Planning Commission; Nanette Fish, Robert Lopez and Joanne Rooso to the Parks & Recreation Commission; and Jim Clift, Serge Haddad and Nicholas Stratis to the Public Safety Commission. ANALYSIS: The appointees to each of the Commissions (i.e., Planning, Parks and Recreation, and Public Safety) will fill the expiring term of office ending June 30, 2013. Resolutions of appointments are presented for City Council's consideration and adoption. If appointed, the appointees will receive their Oath of Office at the City Council Meeting of June 18, 2013. Appointments of the new commissioners in June will ensure that they are seated and ready to conduct City Commission business at their first official meeting in July. CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to adopt proposed Resolution No. 13-4917 confirming appointment of John Cordes, Patrick Horton, and Albert Leung to the Planning Commission; Resolution No. 13-4918 confirming appointment of Nanette Fish, Robert Lopez, and Joanne Rooso to the Parks & Recreation Commission; and Resolution No. 13-4919 confirming appointment of Jim Clift, Serge Haddad, and Nicholas Stratis to the Public Safety Commission with a term of office ending June 30, 2015 for all nine commissioners. That Patrick Horton is hereby appointed to the Planning Commission of City of Temple City. Said term to expire on June 30, 2015. SECTION 2. That Albert Leung is hereby appointed to the Planning Commission of City of Temple City. Said term to expire on June 30, 2015. SECTION 3. That John Cordes is hereby appointed to the Planning Commission of City of Temple City. Said term to expire on June 30, 2015. SECTION 4 The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution.
