RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PARTICIPATION IN NEW
JERSEY TRANSIT'S COMMUNITY SHUTTLE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, NJ Transit is making available the no-cost lease of a
vehicle, through its Community Shuttle Program, for the purposes of
allowing communities the opportunity to provide shuttle services to local
stations or bus major corridors; and
WHEREAS, Carteret desires to provide improved access to the
Woodbridge rail station and bus stops in town with a designation of New
York City for its residents and other public transit users by operating a
shuttle service to or from the transit facilities; and
WHEREAS, over crowded parking lots located within the borough to
assist with the transportation needs may be better utilized for the benefit of
the entire town;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council
of the Borough of Carteret that:
1. If selected by NJ TRANSIT to participate in the Community Shuttle
program, the governing body accepts and understands its financial
responsibility to provide funding for all facets of the operation of a shuttle
service to a rail station / bus corridor including operation, supervision,
housing and maintenance.
2. Once selected for the program, the Borough of Carteret ;viii sign a
pass-through agreement with NJ TRANSIT which will outline the periodic
reporting responsibilities and federal certifications / assurances which
must be met, including FTA guidelines concerning a policy on drug and
alcohol misuse in the workplace and testing / administrative procedures
for employees.
