Office of -Special Council Committee

Monday May 16th, 1932.
The Special Council Committee, Board of Public Works of the • City of
Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session at the office of said Board
Monday May 16th, 1932, at 9 o !clock A.M. Messrs, Crabb, and Schnieder
being present; Mr. Ford, absent. TWo members of said Board being laxx
present, the following proceedings were had, to-wit :
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved. •
Mr. Hess, Sup 't. , of the Municipal Electric Lighting & Power Plant,
reported that economies had been effected in that department . •
Although plant operations have increased enormously the past ten
years, necessitating a larger working force, the plant 's payroll in
that period had increased only about 4i45, 000.00 per year.
With the exception of the line department all branches of the plant
have more work to do now than in several years because of the im-
provements being made in connection with new boilers and turbine.
He stated that employes of the line department have been placed on •
a five day week basis with the exception of the superintendent and
one trouble man, effecting .a saving of 4180 per month.
Mr. Hess, recommended that all employes o_ f the plant be -given two
weeks vacation without pay this year, which would. effect a saving
of $6500.00 for the year, Mr. Hess was authorized to use his own
discretion in this matter. Mr. Hess stated that despite expenditures -
for a number of current plant improvements there was a balance of : •
$817, 508.00 as of May 1st, including cash in banks and investments.
It was reported to the 'Board that Mr. Ford, president of the Board
who has been very ill for the past 3 months; was in a very ' serious
condition at an .Indianapolis .Hospital.
The Board approved the various payrolls to May 16th, 1932.
