HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 23-089 - Resolution to update the special events policySponsored by: Mayor Taylor RESOLUTION NO. 23-089 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER TO UPDATE THE SPECIAL EVENTS POLICY AND PRESENT IT TO THE CITY COMMISSION FOR FINAL APPROVAL; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka ("City") holds certain several special events designed to enhance the quality of life for residents, business owners and visitors; and WHEREAS, the current special events policy was adopted by Resolution 21-9859; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka desires to update its special events policy for city commission approval and further desires to incorporate the recent direction of the City Commission pertaining to special events; and WHEREAS, any revisions to the special events policy shall be presented by the Interim City Manager to the City Commission for final approval; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to review and revise its Special events Policy to allow staff and the City Commission the needed flexibility to structure and plan events for the community. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby directs the Interim City Manager to update the City's special events policy and present said policy to the City Commission for final approval. SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. Resolution No. 23-089 SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. Staff summary: Events within the City help to increase the quality of life for residents and visitors. The current Event policy was adopted by Resolution 21-9859. It is in the best interest of the City to review and revise this policy to allow staff and the City Commission the desired flexibility to structure and plan events for the community. Any revisions to this policy will be presented to the City Commission for final approval. financial Impact - There will be no incremental expense involved in the Staff updating the City's Events policy. Proposed Action: It is recommended the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka adopt legislation directing the Interim City Manager to update the Events policy and present it to the City Commission for final approval.
