SUBJECT: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION ACTIONS — MEETING OF APRIL 17, 2013 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file the Parks and Recreation Commission actions from their meeting of April 17, 2013. BACKGROUND: On April 17, 2013, the Parks and Recreation Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting. ANALYSIS: Following is a summary of actions taken at the April 17, 2013 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting: 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioner - Arrighi, Georgino, Haddad, Wong Absent: Commissioner - Fish 2. CEREMONIAL ITEM The Parks and Recreation Commission presented certificates of recognition to the 2013 All-Star Youth Basketball Champions. City Council May 7, 2013 Page 2 3. CONSENT CALENDAR The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the minutes from their Regular Meeting of March 20, 2013, and received and filed the monthly reports for March 2013. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Parks and Recreation Commission received an update on the Parks and Open Space Master Plan. 5. NEW BUSINESS A. REVIEW OF TITLE 3 (PUBLIC SAFETY), CHAPTER 4 (STREETS AND SIDEWALKS), ARTICLE D (ROADSIDE TREES) OF THE TEMPLE CITY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATIVE TO ROADSIDE TREES The Commission established an Ad Hoc Committee, comprised of Commissioners Arrighi and Haddad, to work with staff on researching and developing a comprehensive ordinance relative to trees and parkways within the City. B. REVIEW OF EXISTING RECREATION PROGRAMS IN REGARDS TO CULTURAL AND GENERATIONAL NEEDS The Commission received a comprehensive report regarding existing recreation programs and provided recommendations for additional programming. 6. MATTERS FROM CITY OFFICIALS A. The Commission received and filed the Parks and Recreation Director's Report for April 2013. CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to receive and file this report. FISCAL IMPACT: This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2012-13 City Budget.
