HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 23-059 - Establishing Earth Day as an observed daySponsored By: Commissioner Williams RESOLUTION NO. 23-059 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING EARTH DAY AS AN OBSERVED DAY WITHIN THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, Earth Day is an annual event to take place in April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection; and WHEREAS, Earth Day honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations; and WHEREAS, the City of Opa-locka desires that residents have an opportunity to show love and appreciation for our precious environment and ecosystems; and WHEREAS, the City of Opa-locka finds that it is in the best interests of the City to recognize Earth Day as an observed day within the City of Opa-Locka with no financial impact related to staffing. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby establishes Earth Day as an observed day within the City of Opa-Locka. SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS. Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors which do not affect the intent may be authorized by the City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without the need for public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor pr Governor's Designee. Staff Summary: Earth Day is a global event to raise awareness and action for the environment. The City's objective is to actively participate in Earth Day by providing resources to educate the community on all the activities that can be undertaken to reduce global warming, limit other destructive activities and promote recycling citywide.
