The following report was received as follows, to-wit : To The Mayor and Board of Works, City of Richmond. Gentlemen: • • Your committee; composed of representatives of the various service clubs of Richmond, to whom was referred the matter of selecting a suitable location for a municipal air-port for the city of hichmond, begs 4.eave to submit to you the following report : After several weeks of investigation and conferences with engin- eers of aviation companies, representatives of the T.A. T. lines, engineers of the Department of Commerce, and representatives of air rail lines, we have come to the conclusion that there are several locations near the city which would be suitable for an airport. In determining which of these is the most advantages there are three things which must be taken into consideration. First, the topography of the ground and the location of sur- rounding hazards to insure the aafety of landing and taking off all planes, day and nigth. Second, the distance from the city and good road connections to anf rom the city. Third, the price. The committee has not considered seriously the question of the value of the land or what price the city would have to pay for these various locations but in making a recommend- ation to the city for the location for a permanent airport the com- mittee feels that the present airport on the National Road west of the city, which is now being used for an airport, is perhaps. the best adapted and most suitable, providing it could be purchased at the right price. The factors in favor of this airport are that it is a fairly level piece of ground adjoining the National Road, where there are buses and traction lines to and from the city, aiid the fact that it a quarter of a mile from the Pennsylvania railroad, and not so far from -the city as to be a disadvantage. We believe that the establishment of a municipal airport of a suitable size and character at this time will be of great benefit to the city in years to come. 1/ . The committee will cc very glad to furnish you with any fur- ther information which you may desire upon the subject . All of which is respectfully submitted. Raymond H. Uarnes, For the Kiwanis Club.
