Gannon, Councilor At Large Anthony Palomba, Councilor At Large Watertown City Council Administration Building 149 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472 Phone: 617-972-6470 PROCLAMATION CELEBRATING THE SECOND MONDAY OF OCTOBER AS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY WHEREAS: President Biden has proclaimed the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples Day in October, 2021; and WHEREAS: Watertown is located on the lands of the Pequossette band of the Massachusetts Tribe who were the first inhabitants and caretakers of this land; and WHEREAS: These Indigenous Peoples have called this place home since time immemorial; and Nicole Gardner, WHEREAS: The many contributions to our communities through Indigenous District A Councilor Peoples knowledge, labor, technology, science, philosophy, culture, and arts have Lisa J. Feltner, substantially shaped the character of Watertown; and District B Councilor WHEREAS: Many who live, study, and work in Watertown are settlers, District Emily t D Councilor immigrants, or descendants of those who originally occupied this land or were forcefully brought to this land; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Watertown hereby proclaims October 10, 2022 INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY and encourages all community members to join in its observance.
