RESOLUTION NO. 23-028
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY
MANAGER TO ESTABLISH A CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE TO
DEVELOP A VISION FOR THE CITY'S CENTENNIAL
CELEBRATION; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka ("City") was established in 1926. In 2026 the
City will celebrate 100 years of history, legacy, progress and commitment to its residents;
and
WHEREAS, this milestone will be recognized with a Citywide celebration; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to establish an advisory Centennial Committee
("Centennial Committee") to assist with the development of a vision for the City's
Centennial Celebration by recommending potential activities, decorations, promotions,
themes, and event planning; and
WHEREAS, the Centennial Committee shall also provide the City with input,
assistance, and recommendations regarding such other matters relating to the City's
centennial celebration, as may be delegated by the City Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Centennial Committee, will be composed of five (5) members,
with the term expiring on December 31, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it is the best interest of the City to direct
the Interim City Manager to establish a Centennial Committee to develop a vision for the
City's Centennial Celebration consistent with this resolution.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED.
The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION
The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby directs the Interim City
Manager to establish an advisory Centennial Committee to develop a vision for
the City's Centennial Celebration by recommending potential activities,
decorations, promotions, themes, and engage in event planning.

SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS.
Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of
typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be
authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney,
without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City
Clerk.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval
of the Governor or Governor's Designee.

Staff Summary:
The City of Opa-locka was established in 1926. In 2026 the city will celebrate 100 years of history, legacy,
progress and commitment to its residents. This milestone will be recognized with a citywide celebration. The
advisory committee will be created to assist in developing a vision for a centennial celebration, which vision
may incorporate and recommend potential activities, events, decorations, promotions, themes, and other
preparations for the City's centennial.
Providing the City with input, assistance, and recommendations regarding such other matters relating to the
City's centennial celebration that the City Commission may assign to the Committee.
to include event planning and execution. The advisory committee, to be referenced as the Centennial
Committee, will be composed of five (5) members with a term until December 31, 2026.
Financial Impact - There is no immediate financial impact resulting from the formation of a Centennial
Committee.
Proposed Action:
Staff recommends the City Commission approve the legislation directing the City Clerk to establish a
Centennial Committee.
