SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
June 7 , 1983
In accordance with the Warrant the Special Town Meeting was held in the
Brewster Elementary School Cafetorium Tuesday , June 7 , 1983 .
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 30 P . M . by the Moderator, Stephen Doyle ,
the tellers were June Gallant, Doris Powell , Gladys Curtis , J . Ogden Tyldsley ,
Jr . , and Ruth Hanlon . Checkers were Dorothea Dugan , Jean Gage , Carl Scrivener,
and Mae Olsen . A quorum was present .
ARTICLE 1 . To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of
Eight Thousand Seventy- Five and 91 / 100 ( $8 ,075 . 91 )075 . 91 Dollars to fund the
contract for the Service Employees International Union — Local 254 employees
for the FYE 1984 and the above funds to be added to the following accounts :
Water Department Wage and Salary Account $ 1 ,454 .29
Water Department Equipment Expense $ 120.00
Council on Aging Bus Driver Salary 374 . 85
Community Center Custodian Salary $ 221 .85
D . P . W. Wage and Salary Account $5 ,289.92
D . P . W. Expense $ 615 . 00

ARTICLE 2 . To see if the Town will vote to amend the Personnel By - Law by
adding the position DH - 10 Head Custodian Community Center to the wage and
salary scale with the following rates to become effective immediately :

and to raise and appropriate the sum of Six Hundred Twenty- Four and 40/ 100
( $ 624 . 00) Dollars representing a 59/6 cost of living increase beginning Fiscal Year
1984 and to be effective July 1 , 1983 for the position of Head Custodian .

ARTICLE 3 . To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Selectmen to appoint
a Golf Commission of five members and two alternate members which Commis-
sion shall have full power and responsibility for the construction , maintenance
and operation of municipal golf course authorized previously . Members of the
Golf Commission shall be appointed by the Selectmen for the following initial
terms : Two ( 2 ) members appointed for three -year terms ; two ( 2 ) members
appointed for two-year terms ; one ( 1 ) member appointed for one-year term ;
two ( 2 ) alternate members appointed for two-year terms , thereafter the Select/
men shall appoint members for three (3 ) year terms . Vacancies shall be filled

by appointment by the Selectmen . The Commission shall , within thirty (30)
days of the end of the fiscal year, make a report to the inhabitants of the Town ,
and shall be subject to audit in the same manner as other boards and com -
missions and to act fully thereon .

ARTICLE 4 . To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to nego-
tiate a lease with a private corporation or individual for the construction ,
equipping and operation of a full -size eighteen hole public golf course on land
acquired by the Town under Article 41 of the Annual Town Meeting of May 9,
1983 and to act fully thereon .
Indefinitely postponed .
There being no other business to come before this meeting, the meeting was
adjourned at 7 : 42 P. M .
