HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-29-1926 Office of Board of Public Works 379 City of Richmond, Indiana, Thursday July 29th, 1926, The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond, .Indiana, met in regular session at the office of said Board Thursday July 29th 1926, at 9 o'clock A.M. All the members of said Board, Messrs, and, McFail and Henley being present . The following proceedings were had, to-wit : • I/ ' Pursuant to notice given to the inhabitants of the . City of Richmond, Indiana. The Board of Public Works met to hear remonstrances or objections if any, against the contract and agreement presented by Charles Johanning doing business in said City, for permission to construct and maintain a transfer track for his use over and across South Sixth Street in said City as follows, viz : "Beginning on the west side of South 6th' Street at a point 205 feet south of the N.E. corner of lot 456, 'Beallview Addition to the city; running thence east- to east side of South 6th Street, at a point 205 feet south of the south property line of South "L" Street; thence south along the east side of of South 6th Street, 9 feet 6 inches; thence west to the west side of. South 6th Street ; thence north along west side of said 6th Street 9 ' 6" to place of beginning" , as filed with the Board on Thursday July Sth, 1926, on which date the Board fixed Thursday July 29th, 1926, atr9 o ' clock A.M. as a date and time at which said Contract and Agreement will be finally considered publically at the office of said -Board, and upon said contract & agreement being pub- lished and notices posted as by law gequired, by the said Charles Johanning. The Board met to hear remonstrances or objections against said contract & agreement as aforesaid. No remonstrance having been filed and no objections having been entered against the same . Proof of publication of said contract & agreement and, hearing thereon, in The Richmond Item and The Richmond Palladium and Sun-Telegram, and the affidavits signed by Delbert Tripp, that notices had been posted in 10 public places in said City. The Board unanimously approved said contract & agreement, heretofore signed by them, subject to the ratification of the same by the Common Council and approval of the Mayor of said City, and now direct an ordinance be prepared and sub- mitted to the Common Council for their consideration and ratificatior The Board received dedication of a strip of land along north side of West Main Street in front of lots 5-6 & 7, in Knollwood Addition, signed by Levi S. Miller and Virda N. Miller his wife, with the following clause, to-wit : The City desiring at this- time to widen & construct Main Street from 5th to 6th Street (Northwest ) we hereby consent thatsaid street be so widened & constructed at this time, • according to said Plat, provided the City of Richmond pays all ex- penses in connection with the widening of said West Main Street and I/ '.: - constructing curbs, gutters and sidewalks without, any expense to us, and further provided that all surplus dirt in nrakai: :g said street be , spread by the City on the back of said lots as may be directed by us, and that the city preserve shade trees along said improvement as far as possible, especially the two tree heretofore pointed out by us. The matter was referred to 'City Attorney for investigation and report. The Board received complaint of weeds etc. at disposal plant from Earlham College, The Street Commissioner was instructed to clean the place up, and keep one man continually looking after the city ' s dis- posal plants ifnthe city 's, and clerk directed to notify the Prest . of College of the order, 380 Thursday July 29th, 1926. The Board met to hear remonstrances if any, of persons whose property is affected by the vacation of Crosshall Street, Green Street and alley between said streets, from Grant Street south, under Declaratory Resolution No. 197-1926. No one appearing or remonstrating, the Board confirmed said resolution and now direct a list or roll of all property owners or 'holders of property bene- fited which list or roll shall also describe the property injuri- ously affected. • The Board met to hear remonstrance if any, of persons interested or whose property is affected under Declaratory Resolution No.198-- 1926, for the widening of Grant Street 5 feet on each side thereof, from Sheridan to Ridge Street . A remonstrance having been filed against said widening, the Board overruled the same and unanimously confirm said resolution without modification, and now order a list prepared of all holders of property benefited, which list or roll shall also describe the property injuriously affected. A petition for the improvement of South " I" Street, by constructing cement sidewalks, curb, gutters and grading & paving the roadway with surface treated macadam, from South 9th to west line of 13th Street, was received and referred to Engineer for plans, etc. , A petition to improve the alley between South 10th & llth Street by constructing cement roadway from South " I" to "J" Street, was received and referred to Engineer for plans, etc. , The Board received bids for'::remodeling of Number 5 Hose House in Northwest 5th Street as follows, to-wit : "Vi ncett Juerling & Son, bid; Remodeling complete----C=ty-te-fu. nieh construction bond-$9975.00 " Arthur Thomas, bid; Remodeling complete, contractor furnish bond $10, 038.00 As the specifications calls for 1-2-3 & 4 Altimate bids, the bids were referred to Architect Werking, together with the city ' s Building Inspector and Fire Chief, for investigation and report as to best and lowest bid received. The Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for Coupe and a Truck both fully equipped & according to specifications of the city on truck body etc. , Claims in amount of '24, 610.02 were allowed. • The Board then adjourned, • Attest : Pre t , B .rd lerk of Board
