The question electric service was brought up as regards Durden - Powers the Mayor said he thought that P> 300.00 per month was reasonable to charge them for service. • Councilman Cann said that the Town had assessed taxes against the Hotel Co., for the Power plant and that he did not think it fair to exact a tax fee this as. the Town was operatic it - -- matter was re- ferred to assessment committee. A letter was read from the C.R.R.requesting permission to operate motion pictures on Sundays, - -- it watt deti4ed to have the property owners of Tybee pass upon this also. A letter was read from the Fresh Air: Home requesting free lighting service tor the home - -- Councilman Cann made motion that this ser- vice be given them - -- motion carti ed. The regular monthly meeting of Town Council was held to -day at 4 P.M. those present being the Mayor and Councilmen lspy,Far.r,Horovitz Mr Brennan. The Mayor brou -ytt up the question of Sunday dancing and asked for an expression of opinion from Council - -- Mr Farr said that personally he would vote against it but that the wishes of the people would be carried out,said that the impression seemed to be that it would affect other parts of Georgia. --- fir Espj, said that he was against Sunday dancing but he would carry out wished, of property owners,--- Mr Hor- ovitz said that dancing of right order should be insisted upon at all times. A quorum was present and the Mayor said that he could call for a vote but Mr Farr said that he thought it would be a better plan to have all of the Comtncilmen pass upon it. Mayor Harris and Mr Hann said that after giving he matter serious condideration and having the expressions of 219 property owners out of Aft 268 questi onaires sent out - -- 130 of whom were in favor of dancing and my 89 against - -- they could see no reason to legislate against it --- Messrs Espy, Farr,Horovitz said that they were agteeable to the Mayor. Mr Farr said that there was no state law against it so Council could regulate it as it saw fit to do so. The Mayor informed Council that had written a letter to Mr P.G.Pierpont requesting that the WaterCarnival be post oned to a date, late than July AnnetteS Dairy petitioned Council reduce the liscense on dairymen de- livering ,milk on Tybee - -- the liscense now they contend is too hih -- the Mayor asked Council for an opinion on this, - -- Mr Horovitz said • that where milk only is handled at a stand the liscense is too high- - that as milk is one of the essential articles needed on the island dairymen should be encouraged to come to Tybee and deliver it. Mr Horovita made motion that where milk is sold from a stand in con- junction with other lines of business that a liscense of $ 10.00 be charged -- Mr Farr seconded same and the motion was carried. Disaission about the Power plant came up:arxi the Mayor said that the Hotel was using more power thatn the Town could stand. - -- his idea was that the charge of $ 60c.00 per month did not include the ice plant. Mr Espy said that the Town should not let Durden4Powers discontinue electric cervice - -- they contending that the charge of $ 300.00 per month was too high - -- he thought that the Mayor should handle with them and try and arrive at some agreement. The Mayor said that he waould see Mr Cann about the Hotel using extra current. The Mayor informed Councul that he had renewed the Dixon Contracting Co., notes for 12 months at 7 per cent interest. Mr Horovitz brought up the matter of charging a liscense for motion p pictures and said that he thought that a liscense of $ 50.00 would be fair, - -- Mir Espy said that the Mayor should be given authority to act - -- Mayor Harris made r - solution that a liscense of $ 50.00 per year for operation for each and every Motion pictures house or theatre in the Town of Tybee to be conducted under sfaety regulations as the Town may decide - - -- passed. Mayor Harris asked that a liscense of $ 15.00 for light weight auto- trucks (Not over 1 ton) soliciting and delivering business in the Town be passed - -- and upon motionof Mr Horovits seconded by Mr Farr was passed. A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 11;30 a.m. in the offices of Councilmen Espy and Walthour and was attended by Mayor Harris and Councilmen Cann ,Farr,Espy,Horovitz,Walthour and former Mayor E .G eorge Butler. i :ayor Harris brought up the question the operating the Power plant which is now being operated at a loss - -- for the first month of its operation this season the deficit was approximately $ 500.00 - -- the Mayor said that he had an engineer from the Savannah Electric Co go down and spend anentire day at the plant in an effort to ascertain what the trouble was and his opinion was that nothing could be done witho rehabilitating the entire plant - -- one thing was noticeable was the currant consumed by the ice punt at Hotel Tybee.
