The Board of Public Works .of the City of Richmond , Indiana, met
in regular session at the office of said Board Thursday July 16th,
1925 , at 9 o' clock A. M. All the members of said Board Messrs ,
Land. , McFall and Henley being present . The following proceedings
were had , to-wit : -
The Board approved primary assessek roll under Improvement leso-
_ lotion No. 757-1925, for the improvement of Crosshali Street ,by
_ constructing cement sidewalks on both sides of stye et, .;from Grant
to School Street .
The Board approved primary asse:,sment roll under Improvement "eso-
luti on No.769-1925, for the improvement of the alley between South-
_ west "A" & Main Street , by constructing cement roadway, from South-
west 7th to 8th Street.
Fry & Pohlme ye r were granted permission to tap the s ewe± in South •
"E" Street at 14th Street, if suitable for their needs , upon :pay-'
ment to the city the amount specified by the City Engineer, and
upon signing proper agreements as to future sewers, in that terri-
tory. _
The Board approved a plat- to be known as Lewis H. Smithmeyer ,Add.
consisting of 34 town lots numbered from 1 to 34 inclusive , running
from Southwest 2nd Street east to river and being south of Nation-
al Road., Streets and alleys as laid out on said plat , dedicated to
the Public use .
Messrs, J.Eme ry, E. Cartright and Miss Vogelman, owners of ground
south of National Road and lying east of Southwest 1st Street , ap-
peared before the Board by request, and were . told that Whereas ,
Mr. Smithmeyer had dedicated ground for a street along the top of
bluff near their property, the Board requested that they also de-
dicate the amount of ground necessary for street on top of said
bluff, it was agreed by all concerned to take same under advise-
ment and report their action in the matter July 30 , 1925.
G. J.Derbyshire ,Gen.Sup' t. of C.& O.Ry.Co. , appeared before the-
_ Board , stating he had gained permission from his company to install
. flasher • signals , as, follows at their crossings ; it is proposed to
eliminate watchman at "G" St , and install six flasher light signals
at 6th 111 "G" & "H" Ste . also at "N" & "L" Sts ; and change ' the
signal at "J" St. from bell to a flasher signal. stating that the
flasher signal is 2 red lights on an ordinary crossing sign on each
side of track. When train approached these signals automatically
• flash alternately until the rear of the trains has passed the cros-
sing in either direction.He requested if agreeable to the Board
that ordinance be passed for said signals as above stated, referred
to City Attorney to prepare proper ordinance.
A remonstrance was filed against improvement of ridge Street from
State to '"chool Street , referred-to City Engineer.
Fire Chief Miller reported that the T.H. I.& E. Traction Co. still
continue to block the street, claiming they had the street between
_ 4th & 6th also N.5th Street blocked for an hour Monday between 11 &
12 o' clock P.M. Clerk directed to write T.11. I .& E. that this prac-
tice must cease .
