HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 1591RESOLUTION NO. 1591 A RESOLUTION RECOGNISING MAY 15, 2009, AS 'POLICE MEMORIAL DAY" AND MAY 10-16, 2009, AS 'POLICE MEMORIAL WEEK" IN PLAINFIELD, ILLINONS. WHEREAS, The Congress and President of the United States have designated May 15 as "Police Memorial Day", and the week in which May 15 falls as "National Police Week;" and WHEREAS, the dedicated men and women who have chosen law enforcement as a career in the Village of Plainfield play an essential role in preserving the rights, safety, security, and freedom of the citizens of Plainfield; and WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression; and WHEREAS, each year we observe May 15th as "Police Memorial Day' to honor those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have became disabled in the pertormance of duty and who have given their lives in the name of the Village of Plainfield while protecting their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, those officers who have dedicated their lives to the service of humanity through law enforcement and those officers who have given their lives in this noble cause be recognized and remembered for the accomplishments; and WHEREAS, the men and women of the law enforcement agency of the Village of Plainfield constantly provide a vital public service; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Board of Trustees, along with all citizens of Plainfield, observe May 15, 2009, as "Police Memorial Day" and May 10-1G, Zp09, as "Police Memorial Week" in Plainfield in honor of the brave and valiant service rendered by the many law enforcement officers throughout this Village. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE OF PLAINFIELD BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Section 1. The ~Ilage of Plainfield Board of Trustees hereby goes on record as recognizing May 15, 2009, as "Police Memorial Day" and May 10-1 G, 2009, as "Police Memorial Week" in Plainfield. Section Z. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Village of Plainfield Board of Trustees requiring it.
