A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED REFERENDUM FOR THE
PLAINFIELD LIBRARY DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield and the Plainfield Library District have worked
closely to create a vibrant and diverse community for the residents that reside in the
Village and District:
WHEREAS, the Village recognizes that the current library facility in downtown
Plainfield serves a critical role in the continued health and vibrancy of the downtown;
WHEREAS, the Village recognizes that the 5$% increase in population of the Plainfield
Library District has put additional demands on the existing resources of the District as a
result of the population increase:
WHEREAS, the Library District currently operates a single facility. The original portion
of the building was built in 1941, with a renovation and addition in 1991. The lower level
remained unfinished in 1991 and was completed in 1997. An interior remodeling of a
portion of the building was completed in 2004. The 27, 160 sq ft facility houses a
collection of approximately 120,000 items, 50 public use PCs, a 6-seat computer
classroom, story time room, meeting roam, Board room:
WHEREAS, the Village believes that the current needs of the Village and district justify
an expansion of the downtown facility and a potential new neighborhood campus:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village of Plainfield declares that:
The Village President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Plainfield supports the
proposed referendum of the Plainfield Library District scheduled for April 7, 2009 which
will allow the District to implement its expansion plans.
