A RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SUPPORT OF EDWARD HEART HOSPITAL'S HEARTAWARE
ONLINE RISK ASSESSMENT EFFORTS
+ WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield is interested in the safety, welfare and health of its residents; and
• WHEREAS, Edward Heart Hospital is a leading provider of advanced cardiac care in the region; and
• WHEREAS, Edward Heart Hospital is launching HeartAware, an online public service campaign aimed
at identifying people who are at risk for heart disease; and
• WHEREAS, HeartAware is an online risk assessment at www.edward.or /heartaware; and
• WHEREAS, the HeartAware assessment takes only five minutes and uses simple questions to
determine if a person could be at risk for heart disease; and
• WHEREAS, for many people, the first symptom of heart disease is sudden death; and
• WHEREAS, this quick and convenient test can be the first step on the road to correcting a very serious
problem; and
• WHEREAS, HeartAware is an aggressive regional effort designed to reach thousands of people and
improve their health; and
• WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Illinois, responsible for 42 percent
of all deaths; and
• WHEREAS, Edward Heart Hospital provides comprehensive, advanced cardiac care in one location,
including screening, diagnostic testing, diagnostic and interventional cardiology, open heart surgery,
inpatient and outpatient services, prevention, education and rehabilitation; and
• WHEREAS, in 2008, Edward Heart Hospital was named as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals far
cardiovascular care by Thomson Reuters, one of only two community hospitals in Illinois to make the
list; and
• WHEREAS, Edward Heart Hospital was ranked as the most preferred hospital for heart care in the
region according to a Z00'~ survey by the National Research Corporation.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Plainfield affirms its support of Edward Heart
Hospital's efforts to reach thousands of people throughout the region with its HeartAware online risk
assessment in order to identify those who may be at risk for heart disease, ultimately resulting in improved
health for residents of The Village of Plainfield, fewer deaths due to heart disease and lower healthcare costs.
