Thursday October 9th , 1924.
The Board of Public Works of the C ity of Richmond, Indiana, met in
regular session at . the office of said Board Thursday October 9th ,
1924, at 9. o' clock A. M. All the members of said .Board , Messrs , Land,
McFail and Henley being present ,the following proceedings were had ,
to-wit:
The Board met to he ar remonstrances if any, of persons primarily •
assessed on account of installing light posts and lighting system
in Reeveston Road , from South 16th to 23rd Street; South 17th-18tti-
19th-20th and 21st Streets, from Reeveston Road. to South "B" Street
under Resolution of Board of Public Works , and as revi sed. No one
remonstrating. the Board app roved a final assessment roll , confirm-
ing in all things the primary assessment roll heretofore approved
and now direct the same be transmitted forthwith to the Le part ment
of Finance .
The Board met to hear remonstrances if any, of persons primarily
assessed un der Improvement Resolution No.712-1924, providing for
paving West 5th Street with Asphalt from National Road to Richmond
Avehue , No one remonstrating , the Board approved a final assessment
roll confirming the original assessment roll as heretofore approved,
and now direct the same. be transmitted forthwith to the Department
of Finance .
The Board met to hear remonstrances if any, of persons Interested
in, or whose propertynis affected by the proposed opening of an al-
ley east of Northwest 5th Street, running from Linden Avenue to
Maple Street , under Declaratory Resolution No. 179 -19 24. No one ap-
pearing or remonstrating , the Board being duly advi se in the premises
the Board confirm said resolution, and now direct that a list or
roll be prepared of all property owners beneficially affected, Which
list or roll shall also describe the property herein sought to be
taken or to be in juric usly affected.
The Bm$.z& City Engineer reported the completion of contract under
Improvement resolution No. 746-1924, for the improvement of the 1st
alley north of South "E" Str eet , by constr uc ti ng cement roadway from
South 6th Street , east t o alley , the Board accepted the same , and
approved primary assessment roll therefore .
The City Civil Engineer reported the completion of contract under
Improvement Resolution No. 748 -1924, for improvement of the alley
between South 9th & 10th Street, by constructing cement roadway from .
South "C" to "E" Street. The Board accepted the same , and app rove d
primary assessment ro11 therefore.
The City Civil Engineer reported the comple ti o n of contract under
Improvement Resolution No. '694-1923. for the improvement of South "A"
Street , by re-surfacing said street with Bituminous" Macadam, from
South 2nd to 5th Street. The Board accepted the same and ordered
assessment roll prepared.
The Clerk reported various matters referred to the Board by the
C ommon Council at the ir la st session.

Contracts and agreements, by and between the various Electrical
Dealers of the City , called "Contractor Dealers" also the .
• Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company and the Edison Elect .
Appliance Company, to ge.ther with the Municipal Electric Lighting
and Power Plant of Richmond , Indiana, to promote ,the best interest
of respective businesses, intend to carry on an advertising and
sales campaign in. the' City of Richmond , Indiana, and vicinity, for
their mutual benefit and for the benefits resulting from the sale
Iof electric •ranges. The above agreements were submitt d to the
Board for their .approval. The Board referred the same to the City
Attorney for investigation, and requesting hi to give the a-
written report on same by Monday October 13th, 192'4. •
The Board directed th'e Clerk to notify the East End Club, Spring
Grove , Indiana, and the Automotive Gear Work ,. that the fire de-
partment will continue to respond to fire alarms in ,their respec-
tive territories .out side of the ci ty according to agreements with
the City, until further notice from the Board , but• the notice
herewi th given does in no 'way cancel the notice given heretofore
to discontinue this protection, but is issued to assure them the
city will give them all the protection possible until new con-
tracts and agreements' are prepared for their approval.
The hire Chief E. E. Miller, submitted the following report :
Expenses of Fire Departmeit for 1923, $57 , 172 . 72, not including
Hudrant rental .
In 1923, there was 269 alarms ; 13 alarms out of City , One to
Cente rvi.lie ; One to New Par is ; Three north of City ; Three west of
City ; Two east of City and Three south of City .
For . the first nine months of 1924; there was 204 alarms; with 17
alarms out side of City ; One to Connersville; One to Fountain City ;
Four north of City ; Three west of. City ; Two east• of City and Six
south of City.
