HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-30-1924 • 04 Office of Board. of Public Works, City of richmond, Indiana, Monday June 30th , 1924. • The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana , met in regular session at .the 'office of said Board Monday June 30th , 1924, at 9 o' clock A. L. All the members of Said Board Messrs , Land, Haai 1 and Henley being present , the following proceedings were -had , to-wit : The City Civil Engineer, reported the completion of contracts under improvement resolutions named, as follows, to-wit : - - • For installing light posts system in Heeveston Road, from South 16th to 23rd Street ; Also , in South 17th , 18th , 19th , 2Oth & 2?st:itre ets • from South "B" Street to Reeveston Road( ,-; • Improvement Resolution No. 699-1923, for constructing cement road- way in alley between the .C . w O. try. Co. tracks & South 7th Street from South "H" to "J" Street . - Improvement liesoluti on do.705-1924, for constructing cement roadway in alley between South 15th & 16th Street , from South "A" to "B" St. _Improvers nt Resolution No. 708-1924, 'for constructing cement side .v walks on. both sides of North 19th Street , from Main to North "A" St. Improvement Resolution No. 725-1924, for constructing cement curb & gutter on both sides of South 7th Street , from South "H" to "J" St. e. • Improvement '•esoluti. on No. 729-1924, for constructing cement road- way in alley between South llth. & 12th Street , from South "A" to "B" Street The Board accepted all the above improvements report- ed completed, and approved a primary assessment roll therefore. The City Civil Engineer reported in matter of remonstrance filed against Improvement Resolution No. 742-1924, providing for the im- provement of Ratliff Street , by constructing cement sidewalks , curb . & gutter on both sides of street and grading and paving the road- - . way with gravel and macadam, from School to Stevens Street , reported that there are 8 resident property owners residing along the line of said improvement, two of whom have signed the remonstrance . There being a number less than a majority sighing said remonstrance , the - Board over-rules the same , and deci des that the benefits to proper- ty liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the cost of same as reported by the City civil engineer , and thereupon takes final acti on on said resoluti on. The same being confirmed wi th out modi fication. The Board granted permissi on to Mike Kolentus , to cut the curb at 601 North 13th Street . A petition signed by E.R.Draver & 22 others was received praying the the alley between South 16th & 17th Street be widened to 14ft . from South "A" Street north to the 1st alley south of Main Street , vhich was referred to City Engineer for plans & resolution. • Monday. Durk- • hardt , the 5jo reserves retai ned on the -following resolutions , Improvement Resolution No. 655-1922, alley between South 10th & llth from South "G" to- "I" Street , amount Improvement Resolution To. 656-1923. alley, between North 16th 8: 17th - from North "C" to--"E" Street , amount c402. 90 The Board on motion unanimously resci-nded Improvement resolution No. 735-1924,. for constructing cement roadway in alley between S.W. "A" and Main Street from S.W. 7th to 8th Street The Board received bids for legal advertising for the year ending June 30th , 1925, as follows , to-wit : - Richmond Item---- -- -47 c per inch, 'of 8 lines & 6 words. each inserti-o Richmond Palladium, -- . 53' per inch each- insertion. The bid of The Richmond Item being the lowest , the Board• awarded the contract to the Richmond Item . The Board received bids under Improvement Resolution No. 736-1924, for the improveme nt of North 19th Street , by paving the roadway wi th one of the following kinds of modern city pavements to-wit : - Brick, Concrete , Sheet-Asphalt or Rock-Asphalt , from Main to North "0" Stree . • as follows viz : • " The Andrews :asphalt paving Co. , bid ; Sheet Asphalt pavement $$2.88 er s rd p tiP p ~ya,_ Z. B. Pyle Co. , bid ; Concrete pavement $r2. 97 per sq-yard " John F. Hipskind, bid ; • Concrete pavement - $3.00 per sq-yard The Board now enters its preliminary order designating that said street be paved using Sheet -Asphalt under the said resolution plans & specifications therefore. The Board received bids for Sanitary Sewer, running from present sewer in Vacated Howard Street at the alley between Southwest lot & 2nd. Street ; thence west to private alley between Southwest 2nd & 3rd Street; thence north along private alley to alley let south of west Main Street , also south 100 feet, under Improvement Resoluti on No. 737-1924, as follows to -wit• : - " John F. Hipskind, bid ; • Sewer complete including replacement of cement walk and macadam Street $6.60 per lira-foof • " Z. B. Pyle Co. , bid; • • Sewer complete $6.76 per linefoot The bid of •John F. Hipskind being the lowest and both bids being above the estimate of the ci ty civil engineer. Mr. Hipsking agreeing : to take the contract at ' 6, 53 per linear foot the engineers estimate the contract was so awarded to said J.F.Hipsking at ¶�6.53 1.in-foot. The Board received bids for the improvement of the alley between North 19th. &n20th Street , by constructing a cement roadway from North "V" to "D" Street , under Improvement Resolution No. 738-1924, as fol- lows to -wit . " Schneider Bros. , bid ; Cement roadway complete .21 7/8 sq-ft . Sewer eon.$1.50 lin-ft (see next page for other bids ) 06 Monday June 30th , 1924. The bid of Schneider Bros . , being the lowest and. within the--es- timate of the City Civi,1 Engineer the contract was so awarded, the City agreeing to pay 3 ,c,' per sq aft. as pEr deci sion made by said • Board on June 12 th, 19 24. Swartzell , caused by goo ing into hole in street not properly barri.caded, in amount of 5p2.75 was referred to City Attorney to prepare proper release from any further damages. - • The Clerk was directed; to noti fy The Hayes Construction Co . , of Indianapolis , Indiana, to immediately begin on work contracted for under various Improvement nesoluti ons in the ci ty . The Clerk was directed to request G. K. Jeffries- of the. T. H. I.& E. Traction Co. , to have the deed. to property owned by said company transferring gro and off of- Tract 216 , Offi cial Map, for widening alley east of- the it car barns, as per verbal agreekiagtmade by him, properly signed and returned to the City . • The Board signed a tentative agreement,to be entered into by them and- the P. C. C. & St. L. R. R. Co. , agreeing to permit the City • to build a new fi re stati on on ground formerly deeded to the ci ty of Richmond by said ijai lro ai Company, for Park purposes only, and directed the Clerk to return said agreement to Mr".
