WHEREAS, Edward. has applied for a Certificate of Need to build an outpatient surgical center
on the 60 acre site at 127th Street and Van Dyke Road. F,dward is finishing construction this
year on an outpatient center and medical offices on the same site where it has proposed its
hospital.
WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield is centrally located in the fastest growing area of the state
which wou d be the logical site to place beds and the expansion of`Rush-Copley does not
improve tlae access, proximity, or travel times to health care for Village residents.
WHEREAS, both Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and Rush-Copley Medical Center
in Aurora have opposed Edward's Plainfield hospital plan since it was proposed in late 2003,
arguing their facilities serve the area adequately. But Rush-Copley is applying for a Certificate
of`Need to add 2G beds to their campus and has also announced. plans to purchase 45 acres in
Yorkville to build a major outpatient center with enough land for a hospital in the future.
WHEREAS, the inconsistent comments of both Provena and Rusli-Copley at the hearings for
Edward Plainfield I~Iospital and their subsequent actions need to be brought to the attention of the
Illinois Health Facilities .Planning Board.
WHEREAS, Rush-Copley and Provena were protecting their own business interests when they
fought our Plainfield plans at the expense of bringing emergency and. inpatient services to
Plainfield.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that because of its continued support for the
Edward Plainfield I-lospital project, the Village of Plainfield opposes Rush-Copley's expansion to
add 26 beds to their campus and. requests a he~u-ing by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning
Board on the project.
