A RESOLUTION FROM THE VILLAGE OF PLAINFIELD
ON CONDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR
THE I-55 & LOCKPORT/AIRPORT ROAD INTERCHANGE
WHEREAS, one of the primary goals within the Village of Plainfield is improving
transportation movement and to that end the Village is open to evaluating transportation
options within the Community and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, the Village's first priority is a full interchange at Route 126 and the Village
desires to have that interchange constructed and open prior to the Lockport Street
interchange, but the Village does not want to discourage the Lockport/Airport Road
evaluation; and
WHEREAS, the Village recognizes that the Lockport/Airport Road Interchange will greatly
enhance public safety and reduce congestion by more than 30% on Weber Road; and
WHEREAS, an Interchange at I-55 and Lockport/Airport Raad may also enhance regional
mobility and access to the Village Plainfield if properly planned with auxiliary road
improvements; and
WHEREAS, an Interchange at I-55 and Lockport/Airport Road may increase economic
development opportunities within the Village; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Rorneoville will work with the Village of Plainfield to develop
feasible alternatives to minimize the Lockport/Airport Road Interchange impact on
Plainfield's Historic District, Central School and historic downtown; and
WHEREAS, The Village conditions such support an the inclusion of im~acts to the Village
and improvements to auxiliary roads, such as Lockport Street and 143r , to be evaluated as
part of the Phase I Study far the interchange; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village of Plainfield encourages the
evaluation of a full interchange at Lockport/Airport Road with the understanding that
auxiliary roads and impacts to the downtown be considered as part of the evaluation and that
should the interchange be constructed that auxiliary road improvements coincide with
interchange improvements; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that while the Village's first priority is for a full interchange
at Route 126 that the Village supports evaluating an additional interchange at I-55 and
Lockport/Airport Rd. with the above stipulations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution will be forwarded to Will
