HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-07-1922 324 Office of Board of Public Works City of Richmond , Indiana, Thursday September 7th,1922. The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session at the office of said Board Thursday September 7th , 1922, at 9 o' clock A.M. All the members of said Board, Messrs, Land, McFall and Henley, being present , the following proceedings were had , to-wit : - The Boar* meets to hear remonstrances, if any, of persons primar- ily assessed on account of paving with concrete South & North 3rd Street, from South "A" to North "D" Street, under Improvement Reso- lution No. 611-1921 . No one appearing or remonstrating, the Board approved a final assessment roll confirming in all things" the ori- ginal assessment roll as heretofore approved, and allows .a final estimate for the construction of the said improvement in favor of Hiatt Construction Company, for '$21 , 230 .89 less 5% retained for one year , said assessment roll is further ordered transmitted forth- with to the Department of Finance . The Board approved a primary assessment roll in matter of the im- provement of alley between, South 9th & 10th Street, by constructing a cement roadway the full width thereof, from South. "G" to "I" Street , under Improvement Resolution No. 631-1922. The Board approved a primary assessment roll in matter of construct . _ ing a cement sidewalk 6' wide on west side of South 7th Street, from South "H" to "J" Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 645- 1922. Pursuant to advertisement, the Board received bids for a machine for purifying turbin oil, etc . , as follows to-wit : - "Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Co. bid : 1-De Laval Oil Purifier, style 359608 f.o.b. works 0736.00 " Dravo-Doyle Co. bid ; 1-De Laval #300 complete f.o.b. cars Poughkeepsie N.Y. - 41110.00 The Board refer, same to D.C.Hess, Sup't. , Light Plant for in- vestigation and report . . The Board received bids for new boilers ,installing same and re- - pairing heating system in City Building, as follows to-wit: - - "John H. Niewoehner, bid ; Installing complete 03628.00; Alternate bid 02872..00. - "Chas. A. Tangeman, bid ; On his own spe ci. fi ca t io ns & plans 3400.00 "7Jrn. H. Meerhoff, bid : As per plans & specifications----54276 .00; Alternate 3677.50 "Wm. C. Bass,& Sons, bid ; As per plans & specifications 5}3960.00 " Charles Johanning, bid ; As per plans & Specifications----0423O.00; Alternate----$3573 .00 The Board take up the various bids for investigation and de- fer action on awarding of contract until said investigation. The City Attorney having misplaced the literature sent to Board by Whiteway Advertising Co. referred to him,the Clerk was directed to again take up the matter of Waste paper cans with said company. Bills in amount of 08450.34 were allowed and payrolls approved up Sep. 2nd , 1922. Thursday September 7th , 1922. 325 The Board sitting as the Board of Public Safety, hear charges pre- ferred by Edgar E. Miller, Fire Chief, against Homer Mi1ler,driver at No. 3 Hose Company, after hearing the Fire Chief and also the defendant Homer Miller, the Board ask of the defendant , if he de- sired a trial, he stated he did , he was told to give the names of his witnesses to the Clerk , and to prepare himself for trial which I/ was set for Monday September l lth , 1922, at 9 30 o' clock A. M. in - the office of Board of Public Works. -Mr. Edgar E. Miller Chief of Richmond Fire Department, presented the following charges, to-wit : - Richmond , Indiana, Sep.7th,1922. TO THE BOARD OP PUBLIC WO RES AND PUBLIC SAFETY: I, Edgar E. Miller, Chief of the Fire Department of the City of. Richmond , Indiana, hereby prefer charges against Homer Miller, driver at No.3 Hose Bompany, of conduct unbecoming a Member of the Richmond City Fire Department: That he did on the night of September lst , 1922 ask to be relieved from duty until Eleven (11) o' clock P.M. which was granted, and that he failed to appear at said hour, called up the next day stating he was sick, and failed to appear for duty until Tuesday September 5th, 1922, and he was seen out riding Sunday Sep- tember 3rd,1922, he also appeared for duty one night during the week of August, 27th , 1922, under the influance of drink, and was cautioned - by his Captain,Harry Aiken, have had more or less complaints about him not paying his debts, for proof of the above charges I refer you to Harry Aiken,Captain No.3 Hose Co. Herbert Ray,Chauffer of City Police Department, George Possett, fireman No. 2 Hose Co. and for his general conduct , refer you to, William Eversman, Chief of Richmond Police. Signed by, E. E. Miller.
