HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-22-1922 Office of Board of Public Works, 28 / City of Richmond, Indiana , 7 Thursday June . 22nd ,1922. _ The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana, met in regular sessihn at the office of said Board Thursday June 22nd ,1922 at 9 o' clock A. M. All the members of said. Board Messrs , Land , McFall & Henley , being present , the following proceedings were had, to-wit : - The Finance Department was directed to pay Z.B.Pyle- Co. contractor under Improvement Resolution No.607-1921 , $210.13 of the- $310.13 held in reserve , and to retain $100.00 for year . The Clerk was directed to notify J. H. Menke ,- to have the brick street paved in front of his place of business on Fort Wayne Ave , formerly occupied by his wagon scales. The Clerk was directed to notify John Starr, to have the brick street paved in front of his place of business on North 10th St. north of the railroad, formerly occupied by his wagon- scales. The matter of the building being constructed by Drawer Bros, -for a swimming pool on east Main t_Street between North 15th & 16th Street. being constructed out side of his lot line , was brcought to the at- tention of the Board , Mr. Hoelscher Attorney for said Deaver appear- ing before the Board stated that by virtue of the buildings to the west having been erected the line was thereby established, and he would advise Drawer to construct this building on the line with the building west , the Board decided that this was a legal question and thereupon referred the matter to the City Attorney. The Board meets to hear all persons interested , or whose property is affected by the improvement . of North 13th Street by grading, gravel- ing the roadway and constructing cement sidewalks 6' wide and cement curb & gutter on both sides thereof, from North "H" to "J" Street , as provided for under Improvement Resolution No. 646-1922. After hearing all persons interested who appeared, the board decides that the benefite to property liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the cast of same as reported by the City Civil Engineer and thereupon take final action on same , the resolution being con- - firmed without modi fi cation. The City Civil Engineer reported the completion of the contract under • Improvement Resolution No. 627=1922, for the 'construction of a sani- tary sewer in the alley west of South 6th Street from South "H" St. .11 to South "I" Street. The Board accepted the same and now order an assessment roll prepared. A petition was presented for constructing cement curb & gutter on both sides of North 19th St, from Main St. to the Railroad, same was referred. to Engineer for plans etc . , A petition was presented for the construction of. a cement sidewalk 5' wide on north side of North "D." St, from N. 14th to 15th St, same was referred to Engineer for plans , etc . , . Complaints from the Common Council were 'presented by the Clerk and ordered filednwith proper officers. '288 Thursday June 22nd , 1922. The Board received bids for all legal or paid printed advertising. for the year ending 'June 30 , 1923, as follows to-wit : "The Richmond Item , bid: For the first insertion, - - $0.46 per inch Foe each additional insertion, - - 0.40 " " " The Richmond Palladium, bid : For each insertion, y 0.085 per inch for each 1,000 circulation guaranteeing a city circulation of 6,000 on 6,000 cir.510 per t On motion of Mr. Henley, the contract was awarded to the Rich- mond Item, for the year ending June 30 , 1923. The Board received 'bids for the furnishing a 5 passenger touring car , with full equipment, one extra tire, tube & rim, suitable for useof the Metropolitan Police Department of the City as follows, "Bethard Auto Company, bids Dodge Bros , touring car - - 4'080 .00 complete " deorge W. Davis , Motor Car Co. , bid ; One 5 passenger touring car 1923 Model- - $1410.00 complete One Model 71-5 passenger Phaeton touring car 1095.00 complete "Wayne County Nash-Motor Company, bid ; Greater Nash Touring Model 691 , - - $1550 .70 complete "Chandler Sales Co. , bid ; Chandler 1922 5 passenger - - $1509.59 complete Chandler " 7 " - 1614 .59 " Cleveland 1922, 5 " - - 1165. 75 " "Carroll' s Auto Agency , bid ; Oldsmobile Model 46, 8 cyl. 6 passenger - $1562.75 " 47 8 " 5 " 1571 .50 no check etc. "Lexington Motor Car Co. , bid : Lexington 5 passenger - - - $1600.00 complete " Pilot Motor Car Co. , bid ; Pilot 5 passenger touring car - - $1695 .00 complete All bids , are according to advertisement , for -full equipment one extra tire , tube & rim, (see bids ) the Board take all bids under advisement, for investigation of same . The Board approved the contract & bond of D.G.Burkhardt, con- tractor under Improvement Resolution No. 639-1922. The Board accepted the work of Ellis Frame , contractor for paint- ing the buildings of park department , and order the amount of the contract paid $598.00. The Board on motion revoke the former order made that if the Coun- cil showed thru their c onst itul nts, it was the desire to place the launch or boat of Cap . Rogers in Glen Lake, they would with- draw their objections to the same , the order to read they would positively prohibit this launch or boat from being placed on said lake , on account of danger connected with . running the same on lake as the lake is not large or deep enough to safely ran the boat thereon. The Sup' t. of Parks , was directed to stop any one from doing work of any nature in the parks, without written permission from the Board or upon his own orders. 89 Thursday June 22nd , 1922. 2 On account of the serious out-look as to securing coal for the city caused by the miners strike and threatened strike of the railroaders , Mr. Hess Manager of the M.E.L.& P.P. was directed to purchase the 62 car loads of coal on which he has secured an option as follows , West Va. , Coal , 25 cars run of mine C $3.30 per ton, 25 cars run of mine © $3.40 per ton, 12 cars of_egg a. 3.50 per ton, f.o.b.mines. The Board directed that the city purchase from the M.E.L. ; P.P. 80 tons of the egg coal above mentioned for different hose houses and 100 tons for City Building, at the price of $3.50 per ton f.o.b.mines. The Board approved the payrolls up to June 16th , 1922. Claims to the amount of $2379.43 were allowed and ordered paid. The Board directed that future improvement resolutions stipulate in the payment on installment plant, deferred payments or im- provement bonds shall bear the rate of 5% interest per annum in- stead of 6% as has been the custom in the past year. • The Board then adjourned, . _re . o oar - Attest ; 4,2 >t.
