Home My Public Portal AboutResolution No. 23-138 Appropriate Funding for VM Ervin's Special Events Budget for Disney on IceSponsored by: Commissioner Ervin RESOLUTION NO. 23-138 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FL, AUTHORIZING THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE FUNDING FROM VICE - MAYOR ERVIN'S SPECIAL EVENTS DISCRETIONARY BUDGET FOR A "DISNEY ON ICE" EVENT TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($7,000.00); PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, each City Commissioner of the City of Opa-Locka has been allocated an equal budget for special events; and WHEREAS, Vice -Mayor Ervin desires to authorize an amount of up Seven Thousand Dollars for a "Disney On Ice" event to be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in an amount not to exceed $7,000.00; and WHEREAS, the expenditure is to be used for admission and refreshments for approximately fifty (50) guests; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that authorizing the Interim City Manager to expend funds to cover the costs up to an amount of Seven Thousand Dollars ($7,000.00) for the Disney on Ice event is in the best interests of the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby authorizes the Interim City Manager to appropriate funding in the amount of Seven (7,000.00) from Vice -Mayor Erviri s Special Events discretionary budget for a "Disney On Ice" Event to be held on September 17, 2023, consistent with the supporting documents attached hereto as Composite Exhibit "A". SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, Resolution No. 23-138 without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. Staff Summary: The City Commission prides itself in hosting various events for the enjoyment of all city residents. Disney on Ice is hosting a local show on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Vice Mayor Ervin is looking to sponsor this family - friendly event in which she is seeking authorization to expend funds not to $5,000 to cover the expenses for admission and refreshments for approximately 50 guests. The related expenditures will be deducted from the Sponsor's special event budget. Financial Impact - Vice Mayor Ervin has over $8,000 remaining in her discretionary Special Events budget. The cost of admission and refreshments shall not exceed the remaining amount of $5,000.
