HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 23-127 Planning and Zoning Workshop for Comm to review Commercial BusinessesSponsored by: Commissioner Williams RESOLUTION NO. 23-127 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER TO SCHEDULE A PLANNING AND ZONING WORKSHOP TO ALLOW THE CITY COMMISSION TO REVIEW AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING PLACEMENT FOR COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, commercial businesses in the City of Opa-Locka ("City") are beneficial and essential. They assist the City by creating quality jobs, reducing expenditures, increasing local economic stability through tax revenues and providing employment opportunities for City residents; and WHEREAS, the City Commission seeks to expand the business community and in that regard desires to instruct the Interim City Manager to schedule a Planning and Zoning workshop to allow the City Elected Officials to review and make recommendations for additional designations of commercial businesses; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that authorizing the Interim City Manager to schedule a Planning and Zoning workshop to allow the City Commission to review and make recommendations regarding placement for commercial businesses, is in the best interest of the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby authorizes the Interim City Manager to schedule a Planning and Zoning workshop to allow the City Commission to review and make recommendations regarding placement and additional designations for commercial businesses. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. PASSED and ADOPTED this 13th day of September 023. The City Commission is seeking to expand the business community and instructs the City Manager to schedule a Planning and Zoning workshop to allow the Elected Officials to review and make recommendations for further replacement of commercial businesses. Financial Impact - No financial impact associated with conducting a workshop Proposed Action: It is recommended that the City Commission approve legislation directing the City Manager to schedule a Planning and Zoning workshop regarding placement of commercial businesses.
