Town of Tybee March 12th 1926 A special meeting of Town council was held to -day at 4; Oep.m. and was attended by the Mayor, and Councilmen. Cann- Espy - Logan- Farr - Horovitz- and Walthcur. Chief of ``avannah Fire Dept. petition from John H.Monrce,fer remission or teauction of asTessed against Claude Hahn was heard,ard on motion of ,:Jr. Cann that it be reduced to $ 50.00 and seconded by Mr Waithour - -- it passed. A letter was read from the C.R.R. requesting information as to the openings of the various- hotels,the Clerk of Council was instructed to answer this letter. Discussion relative to the Military encampment at Tybee this comdng summer was had, and as Fort Screven is not available, the Mayor ap %o inted a committee from the Town,and he will request the City of savannah -- the County Commissioners -- and the card of Trqde to appoint similar committees to see what was necessary to be done to get the enceunpmnet -- Mr Cann said that Venetian Terrace was not available - -- the Committee appointed by the Mayer to represent the Town are Mr Farr, who will act as Chairman, and Messrs Logan and Horovitz. 41" The Mayor produced quite a number of letters from Congressmen and Sen- ators of Georgia that were written tc him in answer to letters he had written them requestin their aid and support when the bill to be in- troduced by Congressman Edwards (HR 9228) calling for an investigation of conditions causing the erosion along thebbeach on the island. The Mayor informed Council that Mr Goodman iri charge of the convicts was doing some very good work,that he had opened up the sewer line under. Third avenue at Eleventh street, the Mayor also stated that it ,would be necessary put in some more catch basins,one at Eleventh st and Third Ave.,and another at Eighth st.,and Third Ave.,. Twoj ettiee have been placed at the South End on the beachside of the Inlet and also that facinee had been placed in front of the cottage of kr A.B.Palmer. The Mayor spoke of necessity of increasing the Towns' income,as it is impossible to properly operate under the present income-- he said that if it was necessary, that the taxes.:should��be increased: endall of the property all over the island. Mr Cann brought up the question of trying to get one of the Citys8 old •fire engines,he claiming that it would reduce the fire rate on the island - the Mayor said he had tried to get an engine from before but had been unsuccessful in doing so - -r Horovitz said he would handle the matter and see what he could' do. There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the call of the ?ayo r.
