HomeMy Public PortalAbout2014.162 (09-02-14)RESOLUTION NO. 2014.162 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD OPPOSING THE SALE OF ST. FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER TO PRIME HEALTHCARE WHEREAS, the Daughters of Charity Healthcare System ( DOCHS) owns and operates St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC), in which SFMC is one of the system hospitals that is for sale; and WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood has enjoyed a long- standing, positive relationship with SFMC and all their staff, to promote quality healthcare services for our residents and community; and WHEREAS, further, the City has always supported and shown appreciation for the outstanding and invaluable services performed by the officers of the St. Francis Registered Nurses Association ( SFRNA), in their efforts to promote quality patient care to the citizens of Lynwood and surrounding communities; and WHEREAS, the SFRNA has a serious concern that DOCHS may sell SFMC to Prime Healthcare, in which Prime Healthcare has a history of removing services from communities by decreasing services within healthcare, organizations; and WHEREAS, St. Francis Medical Center is a designated hospital for trauma, STEMI, and stroke; in which these services could :be in jeopardy of ending if Prime Healthcare acquires the DOCHS, in addition to removing further healthcare services from communities; and WHEREAS, Prime Healthcare has also displayed a poor track record of working constructively with nurses and other healthcare professionals in resolving healthcare issues, patient advocacy issues, and advocacy programs for healthy communities; and WHEREAS, the City's ultimate goal is to support the healthcare system that provides the best, quality healthcare services, and a wide range of healthcare programs and services to our residents and community; and NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. - -By adoption of this Resolution, the City of Lynwood formally opposes the sale by the Daughters of Charity Healthcare System ( DOCHS), who owns and operates St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC), to Prime Healthcare. Section 2. The City encourages the Daughters of Charity Healthcare System ( DOCHS) not to sell SFMC to Prime Healthcare, and carefully reconsider all available healthcare service providers to select a provider that will provide the City of Lynwood's residents and neighboring communities' with the most outstanding, quality healthcare services and wide arrange of healthcare programs that meets the communities' needs. Section 3. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its adoption. Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this City Council Resolution.
