RESOLUTION NO. 23-147
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING
OCTOBER 2023 AS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
MONTH IN THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA; PROVIDING FOR
INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, according to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC),
breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women; and
WHEREAS, increasing the public's knowledge about the importance of early
detection of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment can save lives; and
WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a worldwide annual
campaign in October, involving thousands of organizations, to highlight the
importance of breast cancer awareness, education and research; and
WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness month is an opportunity to unite all
citizens in our community to prevent breast cancer deaths through increased
education and regular screening; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interest of the City and
its residents to recognize October 2023 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the
City of Opa-Locka.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby recognizes
October 2023 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Opa-Locka.

Section 3. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and
corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this
Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review
by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected
copy of same with the City Clerk.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to
the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee.
