WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield has determined that effective transportation
planning requires an additional access to I-55; and,
WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield believes an additional full interchange at I-55 can
provide significant economic development opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield has engaged an engineering consultant to initiate
this work; and,
WHEREAS, the Village of Bolingbrook has initiated similar work by evaluating the
improvement of the I-55 Interchange at Route 126.
WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield seeks intergovernmental cooperation in an effort to
secure an additional full interchange on I-55 for the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of Trustees that it
intends:
1) To hire a consultant to study the traffrc origination and destination of traffrc in the
corridor between the existing interchange at Route 126 on the north and the abandoned
railroad overpass on the south; and,
2) To work with the Village of Bolingbrook, the State of Illinois, and the federal highway
authorities to gain approval for an additional full access interchange with I-55 that is
located within the Village of Plainfield; and,
3) Study the appropriate placement and location for the additional interchange or the
improvement of the existing interchange at Route 126.
