HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 1158r RESOLUTION NO 115 8 WHEREAS, the Village of Plainfield operates a public water utility which has been granted a variance from restricted status by the Illinois Pollution Control Board as it relates to the standard far radium in drinking water, and; WHEREAS, this variance has been granted in part because the 20 pCi/1 standard proposed in the USEPA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) published in June, 1991, would significantly alter the Village of Plainfield's needs for alternatives to achieve compliance, and; WHEREAS, any actions taken by the Village of Plainfield to achieve compliance with the current USEPA interim standard of 5 pCi/1 would create a significant financial burden which would be unnecessary under the NPRM, and; WHEREAS, there have been no objective empirical studies which indicate that the standards outlined in the NPRM would create a health risk to Village of Plainfield water utility customers; NOW BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village of Plainfield respectfully asks the USEPA to adopt the standards published in the NPRM as it relates to radium in drinking water without delay or fully explain the reason for delay including any evidence that might suggest the original NPRM standard might constitute a health risk.
