HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 23-155 Authorizing Expenditures for a Breast Cancer Community EventSponsored by: Commissioner Williams RESOLUTION NO. 23-155 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING EXPENDITURES RELATED TO A BREAST CANCER COMMUNITY EVENT TO BE HOSTED BY COMMISSIONER VERONICA WILLIAMS AND SPONSORED BY THE CITY COMMISSION IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) TO BE PAID FROM THE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL EVENTS BUDGET; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka ("City") recognizes the Month of October as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month"; and WHEREAS, Breast Cancer is known as the second leading cause of cancer death among women; and WHEREAS, in support of the quest to find a cure and to educate residents by bringing awareness to Breast Cancer, Commissioner Williams would like to host a community event in the amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to be sponsored by the City of Opa-Locka and paid from the City's Parks and Recreational events budget; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that it is in the best interest of the City and its residents to approve expenditures related to a breast cancer awareness event to be hosted by Commissioner Veronica Williams. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby authorizes expenditures related to Commissioner Veronica Williams' Breast Cancer Community Event, in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) to be sponsored by the City of Opa-Locka and paid from the City's Parks and Recreational events budget; and SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be Resolution No. 23-155 authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. PASSED and ADOPTED this llth day of October, 23. Staff Summary: The City of Opa-locka recognizes the Month of October as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month". Breast Cancer is known as the second leading cause of cancer death among women. In support of the quest to find a cure and to educate residents by bringing awareness to Breast Cancer, Commissioner Williams would like to host a community event in the amount not to exceed $5000. The related expenses shall be expended from the sponsor's Special Events Budget. Financial Impact - This expense will be charged to Commissioner Williams' allocated discretionary budget within the City Commission Special Events budget. Proposed Action: It is recommended that the City Commission authorize the expenses related to Commissioner Williams' Breast Cancer Awareness Event, not to exceed $5,000. Attachment:
