Bass for Opa-locka Historic ProgramSponsored by: Commissioner Bass RESOLUTION NO. 23-154 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, AUTHORIZING TRAVEL EXPENDITURES, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($1,500.00), FOR COMMISSIONER SHERELEAN BASS TO TRAVEL WITH THE OPA-LOCKA HISTORIC PROGRAM DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2023; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka ("City") was founded by aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss in 1926. Its history is significant to the residents and elected officials of the City; and WHEREAS, to further boost involvement with the Opa-Locka Historic Program, Commissioner Bass desires to travel to Douglasville, Georgia to visit relatives of the City's founder and gather historical information, archives and memorabilia on behalf of the City; and WHEREAS, travel will take place in October 2023 and the City Commission desires to authorize expenditures in an amount not exceed One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00); and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that it is in the best interest of the City and its residents to authorize travel expenditures, in an amount not to exceed, One Thousand Five, Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) for Commissioner Sherelean Bass to travel with the Opa-Locka Historic Program during the month of October 2023. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby authorizes travel expenditures in an amount not to exceed One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) for Commissioner Sherelean Bass to travel with the Opa-Locka Historic Program during the month of October 2023. SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of Resolution No. 23-154 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGAL SUFFICIENCY: typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. PASSED and ADOPTED this 11th day of October, 023. Staff Summary: The City of Opa-locka was founded by aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss in 1926. Its history is significant to the residents and Elected Officials. To further boost the Opa-locka Historic Program, Commissioner Bass will be traveling to Douglasville, Georgia to visit relatives of the City's founder to gather historic information, archives and memorabilia on behalf of the City. Travel will take place in October 2023 and expenditures shall not exceed $1500. Financial Impact - Proposed Action: It is recommended that the City Commission authorize travel expenditures not to exceed the amount of $1500.00 for Commissioner Sherelean Bass to travel with the Opa-locka Historic Program during the month of October 2023.
