HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 99:332No. 99-332 Date of Adoption 0CTOBI~ 12, 1999 RESOLUTION URGING STATE ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY TROPICAL STORM FLOYD WHEREAS, numerous communities throughout the State of New Jersey experienced enormous damage as a result of Tropical Storm Floyd; and WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Administration ("FEMA") will provide emergency relief for victims, but is limited in its scope and does not address long-term issues for individuals and their devastated communities; and WHEREAS, Assemblymen Robert Smith and Gerald Green and Senator John Lynch have called on the Assembly Speaker, the President of the Senate, and the Governor to call the Legislature into special session to deal with problems resulting from Tropical Storm Floyd. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret urges the legislative leaders and the Governor to embrace the Smith, Green and Lynch initiative and to call the legislature into session to address the outstanding problems resulting from Tropical Storm Floyd; develop a plan to supplement FEMA's efforts and provide desperate financial assistance to affected individuals and communities and create a plan to improve emergency preparedness so that the tragic events of Tropical Storm Floyd are not repeated. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be sent to Governor Christine Todd Whitman, Senate President Donald DiFrancesco, Assembly Speaker Jack Collins, all Middlesex County Municipalities and Assemblymen Smith and Green and Senator Lynch. Adopted this 12th day of October, 1999 and certified as a true copy of the original on October 13, 1999. KATHLEEN M.
