HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolutio No. 23-152 Authorizing expenditures for Mayor's Quarterly Small Business LuncheonSponsored by: Mayor Taylor RESOLUTION NO. 23-152 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, AUTHORIZING EXPENDITURES RELATED TO MAYOR TAYLOR'S QUARTERLY SMALL BUSINESS LUNCHEONS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($1,500.00) FOR EACH BUSINESS LUNCHEON EVENT AND AUTHORIZING MAYOR TAYLOR AND CITY STAFF TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO PLAN AND EXECUTE EVENTS; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, it is imperative the City of Opa-Locka ("City") ensures that small businesses are supported and have the necessary tools, resources, and information for success; and WHEREAS, in support of strengthening City businesses, Mayor Taylor intends to host quarterly networking events for the benefit of the City's business community during the 2023-2023 fiscal year; and WHEREAS, these events require expenditures for catering and related event services. As such, the City Commission desires to authorize Mayor Taylor and City staff the authority to take all necessary steps to plan for the quarterly events and approve expenses in an amount not to exceed One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) for each event; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that it is the best interest of the City and its residents to authorize expenditures related to Mayor Taylor's Quarterly Small Business Luncheons, in an amount not to exceed One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) for each event, and to further authorize Mayor Taylor and City staff to take all necessary steps to plan and execute the quarterly events. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby authorizes expenditures related to Mayor Taylor's Quarterly Small Business Luncheons, in an amount not Resolution No. 23-152 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGAL SUFFICIENCY: to exceed One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) for each event, and to further authorizes Mayor Taylor and City staff to take all necessary steps to plan and execute the quarterly events. SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. PASSED and ADOPTED this 11th day of Octob-r, 023. Staff Summary: It is imperative the city ensures that small businesses are supported and have all the necessary tools, resources, and current information for success. In support of this movement, Mayor Taylor hosts a networking event curated for the City’s business community quarterly. This event requires expenditures for catering and related event services. The Sponsor and City staff shall be authorized to take all the necessary steps for planning and the approval of expenses in the amount not to exceed $1,500. Financial Impact – Proposed Action: It is recommended to authorize the expenses related to Mayor Taylor’s Business Luncheon for small businesses not to exceed $1,500.
