HomeMy Public PortalAbout19260503CCMeeting (2)" Town of Tybee,Ca.May 3rd 1926. 29 A regular meeting of Town Council was held to -day and was attended by Mayor Harris and `' ouncilmen Cann,Horovitz,Farr,Logan and mayor -elect Gamble. A petition from E.B.Izlar to erect an addition to his bath house extending 20 feet to the North and 18afeet to the East on the Strand was read, Mr Izlar was present and explained to Council what he pro- posed to do, the Mayor asked the pleasure of Council and Mr Cann made a motion that permission be given Mr Izlar,which was seconded by Mr Horovitz and passed unanamously. A petition was read from Johnson A.Byers requesting that Stone street at Estill Station be chmnged to Byers street, the matter was referred to the Streets and Lanes Committee with power to act. A petition was read from Mrs M=artha Schneider asking for a reduction in her liscense -- the matter w�s ref'ferred to the Police Committee. The Mayor said that as he was leaving office he would like to know what Councils attitude was regarding an audit of the books of the Town and Mr. Cann said that it ought to be done and made a motion that if the cost does not exceed $ 100.00 that the Clerk of Council be instructed to have the work done, this was seconded by Mr Horovitz and the moyion carried. Liscenses of Fortune Tellers or Palmists was increased to $100.00 per person, ';.he .a:=1,1-;.e = - ,t'ferrf;d, t ; the Foiir.e Committee ; t Lhis seesic,- Of ,. +, G`.Liittee in turn reported. as ;ein -; favorable o the S.A.Blackwell we employed as Engineer at th ePower Plant at a salary of $ 150.00 per month -- as it was necessary that certain work be done to the Power plant jtoget it in condition to operate for the coming season, the L'ayor appointed Messrs Logan and florovits a committee to look after this work. Mr Cann offered a resolution of thanks to the retiring Mayor Mr Logan seconded same and it was passed unuanaamously Mayor Harris accepted same with thanks and in turn thanked Council for the splendid co -op- eration given him during his tenure of office. After the adjournment of the old board, their terms of office having expired,the new Board elected April 7th 1926,as per report on page 23,were duly sworn in by Oliver T.Bacon,Comnissioner of Chatham County,Georgi3 as shown and subscribed on page 28. " A mee ,ing of Council was held this Third day of May 1926 presided over by Thomas Gamble, Mayor those attending being. Councilmen Cann, Horovitz,Logan,Espy, and Farr. Mayor Gamble thanked Mr Bacon for his kindness in coming and swearing in the Officers and Mr Bacon, in return said that it was distinct pleasure to him to have been the one selected and that he felt high- ly complimented -- retiring Mayor Harris addresssing Mr Bacon said that without the splendid support and co- operation extended by Mr 3OBacon and the County Com:nissionererTybee could not proceed forward. The New Board was called to order by the 1ayor and asked to adopt rules for-the Mayar and C(3n cilrnen and on motion of Mr Cann, seeoned by Mr Horovitz,the old rules were adopted,without change. Mrr Cann nominated Mr Farr for Chairman of Couneil,mr Espy seconded, and i:x Farr was elected. Dennid Lysaught was nominated for Chief of Police by .Mr Espy, seconded by Mr Logan,for a period of one year,Mr Lysaught was elected. On motion of Mr Cann Frank P ,McIntyre was nominated for Town Attorney seconded by Mr Horovitz,at a salary of $ 250.09 for a period of one year. iwr.Mc Intyre wRs elected / Dr. Harry Y.Righton was elected Chairman of the Sanitary Board. The following committees were appointed; FINANCE ASSESS ANT POLICE LIGHTING &WATER STREETS & LANES DRAINAGE & SANITAT W'a ithour Espy Logan Cann Horovitz ION 1?arr Farr Espy Cann Logan Espy Horovitz Farr Walthour Cann iivalthour Logan Horovitz The Tayor called to the attention Council the unsightly places around the island and said that they should be cleaned up, that he thought it would be a good idea to place trash boxes at different points on the island, especcially around the connession stands. The question permitting some the various games to operate on the island came up and the Mayor said that he did not see any objection to games where the people got fair play and a run for their money but that he was not not in favor of permitting gambling wheels, or machines or any games where "buy - backs" were nade The i;ayor asked the attitude of Council regarding motion pictures on unday and the opinion of Council was that there was no ob4ection to this form off recreation. There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor.
