The regular meeting of Towh Council *AO held to-day a p at 4.00 .m. d ea . was attended by Mayor Gamble and Councilmen Horovitz,Logan,Parr, and Espy. f# The Streets and Lanes Committee reported that authority had been given II. to change Stone street, at Estill Stati on, to Byers Street. The Mayor called attenton to the bad condition of the stack at the power plant, it being necessary to get a new one,he advised that a price had been quoted by Mingledorf & Co for a new stack of # 312.00. -- the question of the amount of salary to be paid to the Asst.Engineer at the power plant came up,and Mr Horovitz made a motion that this matter be left to the discretion of the Mayor,it was seconded and the motion passed. • • From the large number of automobiles comin. to Tybee every day now, it is very noticeable that some ways and means will to be devised to handle the problem of parking,and the Mayor sug;ested that the Town should purchase enough ga9rlen 15th street and at the same time re- pair it ast it is getting in bad shape now,thie would help the parking problem somewhat Mr Horovitz mentioned that the operators of Tybri- sa Pavilion had offered to pave 16th street for the account of the Town and carry the Towns note without interest paid -- "1 r Logan made a motion that if the Operators of Tybrisa Pavilion will buy the material to pave 16th to its full width, that the Town of Tybee will lay and grade it, r Farr seconded same and the motion passed, hr Horovitz will handle with the operators of Tybrisa Pavilion. The dangerous condition of Butter avenue in some places which is caused by the street being so mush higher than the land on either side of the pavement was noted, and it was the opinion of Council that sand should be filled in wherever these low spots exist the matter was refferred to the Streets and Lanes Co,nnttee. The need of comfort: stations on the island being very apparent the Mayor informed Council that he thought it would be a good idea have at least one for women and one for men in some location around the concessions, he appointed a co mmittee consisting of himself,i r Espy- and Mr ' Horovitz to investigate this matter and Mr Farr rnade a motion that this committee be given power to act which was seconded by Mr Logan,and passed. The Mayor called attenti n to Council that as the professional life guards employed by the �,f,��.����'�°�� +s at Tybee were a very important factor in the protection of life from drowting in the surf,and as he thought that they should be under the supervision of the Town autho- rities so that they may be kept up to a high state of efficiency he asked Council give the the authority for the appointment of Henry %.Buckley as supervisor' of life guards, this in connection with his other duties of the Town -- Mr Horovitz made a motion that Henry N. Buckley be appointed supervisor of life saving with authority neces- sary to .3eepthat the beach is patrolled during the time that the bath houses are o n� and that the professional life guards ernplyed by the various � .�� ± are efficient -- Nr Farr seconded same and the motion carried. The Mayor mettioned that a carnival company had opened up on the island for the coming season, they have anumber of rides, games and other arnuse- ments,and that he was in favor of them coming to Tybee as long as they 32 conducted clean amusement,he had instructed the Chief to close any that were not up to standard. The Mayor called attention to Council of the note given W.C.Bryant & Co for work on the power plant,becoming due on May 15th,and asked the advice of Council regarding the reduction of it Mr Espy wade a motion thata reduction of $ 500.00 be made and a new note given the Liberty Bank & Trsut Co for the balance 350 00 this WIZ jse ended by ° Horovitz and passed. AU/y)V( fc-4t/i/ Lcs-ce i The regular meeting of Town Council was held to -day and was attended by the mayor and Councilmen Cann ,Logan,Horovitz,Walthcur,Espy and the Town Attorney Mr McIntyre,also ex -Mayor E.George Butler. The minutes of the meetings of May 3rd -and 14th were read and adopted. Regarding the comfort station to be erected for women, the i,Layor in- formed Council that Mr.J.F.O'Brien,owner of the land that the building to be used Ter this purpose is now located on and Mr J.Ferris Cann Oresident of the Tybee Beach Co.,had given their consent for the the Town to utilize it for a comfort station,and that the Town would now recondition the building and install wash basins to ilets, ect., for women,and otherwise make it attractive and useful -- the Tybee Cont- racting Co made a bid to recondition the building furnish the neces- sary materials, exoept septic tanks for the sum of 500.00,the con- tract covering this work is filed in the Town records,the Mayor asked Council to confirm it,Mir Cann made a motion that the Dyer be given authority to handle this matter with the Tybee Contracting Co,which was seconded and passed. The Mayor asked Council to extend its thanks to Mr O'Brien and the Tybee Beach Company for their generous co- operation,so Mr Horovitz made a motion that Tyr O'Brien and The Tybee Beach Co.,be sent a letter expressing the thanks of Council for their fine spirit of co- operation, it was seconded by Mr Espy aid was passed. As it is apparent that tEaffic duty is unfit what was to be done ab referred to the Police by mr Horovitz and the the present motorcycle used by the Town for for further service, the question came up as out it and on motion of lair Cann the matter was Committee with power to act, this was seconded matter passed.
