Regular Meeting
DATE: June 5, 1978 AT: Village Hall
MEMGERS OF BOARD PRESENT: Complete Board Present
President Selfridge called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with the
Pledge to The Flag. Roll call was taken. All members of the Board
were present.
President Selfridge appointed Claude Jennings Treasurer for the fiscal
year 1977-1978.
G. Ansley made a motion to approve the appointment of Claude Jennings
as Treasurer. Seconded by J. D'Arcy. Motion declared carried.
President Selfridge appointed G. Ansley as President Pro-Tem in his
absence.
D. Rife made a motion to approve the appointement of G. Ansley as
President Pro-Tem. Seconded by L. Robinson. Motion declared carried.
D. Rife made a motion to approve minutes of meetings May 1, May 15 and
May 25, 1978 as printed. Seconded by J. King. Motion declared carried.
Tt was agreed to grant a request from the Plainfield Jaycees to allow
the use of Fox River Street from Chicago to Ottawa and Ottawa Street
from Desplaines to Fox River for a Carnival, August 1Fith thru 20th.
J. D'Arcy made a motion to hire two high school aides part time for
maintenance work. Seconded by J. King. Vote by roll call. Ansley, aye;
Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King, aye; Rife, aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes,
no nays. Motion declared carried.
L. Robinsan made a motion to approve expenditure of $55.00 for a dumpster
(20 cu. yd.) to be placed South of Lockport Street June 17th and North of
Lockport Street June 24th far Clean-up Days. Seconded by G. Beahm. Motion
declared carried.
G. Beahm made a oration to authorize Attorney to handle Village Hall building
problems directly with Contractor, Hugh Rose. Seconded by D. Rife. Motion
declared carried.
J. King made a motion to reimburse Greg Chapman $598.8$ for travel expenses
and food while enrolled in basic law enforcement classes. Seconded by
G. Beahm. Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King, aye;

J. King made a motion to send two 'Auxiliar}=.'.Po.l'ice bf.fi.c_ers to State
Firearms School at a cost of $50.00 for both officers. Seconded by
J. D'Arcy. Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye;
King, aye; Rife, aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes, no nays. Motion
declared carried.
J, King made a motion to change the status of Art Henschen and Dan
Offerman from Auxiliary to part time Officers. Seconded by G. Ansley.
Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King, aye;
Rife, aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes, no nays. Motion declared carried.
It was annaunaed bids. were opened Monday June 5, 1978 at 11:00 a.m,
for improvements of Commercial Street and Fox River Streets.
D. Rife made a motion to award the bid to Crown-Trygg Corporation, Joliet,
Illinois, the law bidder at a total cost of $28,466.14, Seconded by
J. King. Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King,
aye; Rife, aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes, no nays. Motion declared
carried.
The fallowing bids were opened at 8:00 p.m. for Sanitary Sewer Extension,
Nabby's Restaurant, Michigan Avenue:
George's Lumber & Excavating, Inc. $9,550.00
Downers Grove, Illinois no bid check
Arenas Brothers Construction $5,245.00
Aurora, Illinois Cashier's Check $525.00
G. Ansley made a motion to accept the bids. Seconded by D. Rife. Motion
declared carried.
D. Rife made a motion to award the bid to Arenas Brothers, the low bidder.
Seconded by J, b'Arcy, Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy,
aye; King, aye; Rife, aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes, no nays. Motion declared
carried.
J. D'Arcy made a motion to have thank you letters written to Monsignor
Rotondi, Congressman O'Brien, Reverend Miller, Tom Mefferd, Harry Buehl,
Ed Jones, Ladies Auxiliary Civil Defense and Glenn Kinley for their
participation in Dedication Day. Seconded by I.. Robinson. Motion declared
carried.
The Plan Commission Annual Report was submitted.

J. D'Arcy made a motion to direct the Building Inspector to issue a permit
for a pole building to Jesse Albright if it meets the National Building Code.
Seconded by G. Beahm. Motion declared carried.

to execute the various Resolutions involving Step I Facility Planning Grant
and sign the Agreement. Seconded by J. King. Vote by roll call: Ansley,

no nays. Motion declared carried.
D. Rife made a motion to authorize the purchase of tax anticipation warrants
in the amount of $21,000.00 to meet the financial needs of the Plainfield
Free Public Library for the upcoming fiscal year. Seconded by J. D'Arcy.
Vote by roll call.: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King, aye; Rife,
aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes, no nays. Motion declared carried.
G. Beahm, made a motion to pass Resolution No. 780, authorizing the Library
to levy an additional tax in the amount of $3,351.00 (.02% of the assessed
valuation of the property within the Village limits), Seconded by D. Rife.
Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye; Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King, aye; Rife,
aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes, no nays. Motion declared carried.
On motion meeting adjourned to an Executive Session at 9:30 p.m. to discuss
personnel and to reconvene thereafter.
President Selfridge opened the adjourned meeting at 9:40 p.m.
J. King made a motion to hire Michael "Iroyanski as part time dispatcher at
,$3.00 per hour. Seconded by J. D'Arcy. Vote by roll call: Ansley, aye;
Beahm, aye; D'Arcy, aye; King, aye; Rife, aye; Robinson, aye. Six ayes no
nays. Motion declared carried.
