Monday March 17 , 1919.
The Board of Public Works of the City of nichmond, Indiana, met in
regular session at the office,- of the said Board, Monday, March 17 ,
1919 , at 8:30 A.M. All members of the said Board being present
Messrs. Johnson, Taylor, and Peitz , the following proceedings were
had to-wit: -
Minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved.
The Board approved and signed the petition of E. Louck' s granting
him permission to cut a 14 Ft . driveway in the curb on the east
side of South 20t-h St . at 520 Official Map -of--the City, all work
to be done at the petitioner' s expense and in accordance with the
standard specifications for such work subject to the inspection of
the City Civil Engineer.
J. D. Himes of 1203 NW. 5th St . asking the Board to have a tile
drai.n across ,nw. 5th st. to drain the water from the east side to
the west side of the °street . The Board referred this matter to the
-City Engineer.
The Board instructed the Supt. of -the Police Dept. to get the
necessary traffic signs to conform with the Parking Ordinance.
A. W. Gregg wanted the Board to sell him the lumber from the wreck-
ed tool house on the West-side. The Board and Building Inspector
decided to appraise said lumber.
Mr. Davis , City Eng. , reported that Geo. Frazier from above William:
burg, Indiana, broke the inlet at the corner of Sherdian & Grant
Streets by running into same with his car. Mr. Peitz moved that
Mr. Frazier payw7.25 to the City Controller, the amount the Eng.
estimated it would cost to repair said inlet. Seconded by Mr. Tay`,

The Board meets to hear all persons interested or Who° s property
is affected by the improvement of North "A" 't. from North 5th to
North 16th by constructing a cement sidewalk on both sides of said
street 72 ft. in width except on such portions of said street where
cement sidewalk is already laid- in good condition, under improve-
ment resolution #560-1919. After .hearing all persons interested wh
appeared and a remonstrance having been filed signed by a major-
ity of the property owners residing on said street on motion of Mr.
Peitz the Board recinded the said resolution.
I/ The Board took up the matter of the petitioners asking for the clos
ing of North 23rd St. from North D to North F Street . Mr. Feltz
moved that this 'natter be referred to the City 'Atty. to see what
further action is necessary, and providing if found legal to then
petition the Judge of the Wayne Circuit Court to appoint appraisers
Mr. Miller , Fire Chief, reported to the. Board the resignation of
Clarenee Lane, Capt . of #2 Hose House , and recommended Harry William.
be appointed captain. Mr. Peltz moved that the resignation of
Clarence Lane be accepted and the appointment of captain and the ma
ter of filling vacancy caused by said resignation be left to the
Fire Chief. Seconded by Mr. Taylor so ordered.

Thursday , March 20, 1919.
The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond, Indiana , met
in regular session at the office of the said Board , Thursday,
March 20, 1919 , at 8 : 30 A.N. All members of the said Board be-
ing present Messrs. Johnson, Taylor, and Peitz , the following
proceedings were had to-wit : -
Minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved .
The Board appointed Ira Slick as a fi-reman to fill the vacancy ,
in the I+'ire Dept . caused by the resignation of Clarence Lune.
Mr. Johnson asked to be excused from Board .Meeting Thursday, Mar.
27th . His request was granted.
The Clerk read a communication from Paul P. Haynes of the Public
Service Commission of Indiana requesting the City of Richmond to
have representatives at the Conference to be held in Indianapolis
Saturday, March 29th , 1919 , at 10 A.M. in regard to the distri-
bution of Natural Gas. The Board instructed the Clerk to notify
the Commission that the City would be represented by the Mayor,
and City Atty.
- The Board instructed the Building Inspector to take some action
in regard to the bill boards at 16th & Sou.th E Streets.
The Board instructed the City Engineer to require a deposit from
anyone borrowing rump or tools of any kind from the St. Dept . &
Engineering Dept.

The Board instructed the Clerk to notify O. G. Murray to repair
sidewalk. in front of the Murray Theatre on Main Street according
to the instructions of the City Eng. otherwise the City will re-
pair same at his expense .
The Board instructed the Clerk to notify Mrs. Alice •McLear of
119 N. 12th St , to repair sewer ditch at her property on N. 16th ,
Street .
