HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-11-1918 - Special Session '� upecial Session. �s Office of the Board of I:ublic 'works City of ilichmond , Indiana Friday, October 11 , 1918. • Pursuant to no meeting held October 10, 1918 , the Board of Public Works met in special session in the office of said Board Friday, October 11 , 1918 at 9 : 00 A.M. to take up the ' matters pending from October 10th. All members of said Board being present 'Messrs . Johnson, Taylor, and Peitz then following pro- I/ ceedirigs were had , to-wit : - The minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved. The Board meets to hear remonstrances if any of persons primar- ily assessed on account of the vacation of Smith Street from the • west side of South 2nd to the east line of the right-of-way of the Chesapeake & Ohio railway Company under Beclaratory reso- lution 121-19181 no..one remonstrating the Board approved the sses c , 1 ' f.. t� final a�.�,,U,�n:ent ro�l �f bc,riE':�lt,o and damages confirming in all things the original assessment roll heretofore approved. ,' there- upon declares said portion of `said Smith' Street above designat- ed vacated and now direct that a cop;r of said assessment roil be forthwith transmitted to the department of finance. The Board meets to hear remonstrances if any of persons primar- ily assessed on account of the construction of 'sewer in the al- ley between northwest 2nd and Hunt Street from sewer in vacated - State Street to 258 0/10 feet north under improvement resoluti on 555--1918 , no one appearing or remonstrating the Board approved. the Final Assessment i,oll confirming in all things the original assessment roll as heretofore approved, and now direct the same to be transmitted forthwith to the department of 'Finance . • The Clerk presented the various complaints from Council Monday, October '7th. The Board referred these complaints to the City Engineer. 1 The Building Inspector presented the following report in regard to the K. of P . Temple : Mayor W. 2immerman and Board of V.or s , City of iich :ond. GentleMen: In regard to the suggestions made by the experts brought here by the City to examine the K. P. Temple building now under construction, I wish to say that upon interviewing Mr. Harry Starr I was informed that the City Attorney has not yet placed their report with him. As he is not informed of same he will be unable to submit his report to City until given same by the City Attorney, Mr. 1:tobbins. Yours truly, I/ John Pinni ok. Mr. Feltz moved that the Building Inspector and City Engineer inspect the K. P. Temple Bldg. and see if the suggestions of the experts have been complied with , . and report in writing to the Board of Works , Monday, October 14 , 1918 . Seconded by Mr. Johnson so ordered . Friday, October . 11, 1916 . 237 His Honor the Mayor reommended to the Board the removal of the fountain at North 18th & C Street to some other location in the same vicinity. No action taken. All members of said. Board being present , Messrs Johnson, Taylor , and Peitz , the following proceedings were had to-wit : - The minutes of the rrsvi ou s meeting read and were approved . The Board aroroved the Contract & Bond of the nichmond Gil Co. as principal , and the United. States J idelity & Guaranty Co. as surety in the matter of installing Gasoline and Oil and Ai.r Dis- f Contract ) - pen.�er infront o.� No. 6 north 6th Street . (See . and Bond ) - Mr. Dillon reported to the Board that the M.�,�.L. & P.D. furnish - the Home Telephone Company light and rower without charge , for the privilege of making contact on their poles . Mr. Dillow stated that it cost the city about 'ii500.00 a year to furnish this current. The Board decided to take this matter up with the City Atty. The Board instructed Mr. Dillon, Supt . of the Light Plant to -.lace an Are Light at the corner of North 9th & A Streets . Mr. Pinnick, Bldg. inspector , and Mr. Davis , City Engineer , made a report in regard to the K. of P . Temple as follows : To the Board of public Works , Gentlemen: Pursuant to your instructions 7e have made an inspection of I/ - the K. of P . Bldg. , to ascertain whether the recommendations made by the experts , to guarantee the safty of certain portions of the floor system, has been corn-plied with. We found that no additional reinforced concrete work has been done since the inspection of the experts , as the contractor is waiting for the reinforcement to arrive. The finish coat of cement mortar has been arpli.ed '•to the en- tire area cf the second floor , except a portion in the front part of the building. The finish coat has not been applied to the first or third floors as yet . • .e could not determine by any appearances in the building whether they intended to comply with the recommendations made or not , according to your instructions we lid not interview any of
