The Board of Public uorks of the 5it;r of Liohmond, Indiana , met in regular session at the o Tice of said Board , Thursday September 12 , 1918 , at D :00 A. M. All of the members of said Board being present , Messrs . Johnson, Taylor and Peitz . The following proceedings were had . , to-wit : - The minutes of the previous meeting read and were, approved. Mr. Johnson brought up the matter of placing lights on North 12th Street Bridge. The Board decided to posnone this matter indefinitely. Mr. Johnson stated to the Board that he did not think that kichmond Avenue , an asphault Street , was holding up and that he did not think that the reserves , held as a retainer on the street should be paid until the Board was satisfied that said Street was meeting the conditions of the Contract covering same. The Board decided to have the Engineer make an invest- igation of said Street . The Board instructed the Market Master to get stationery for his office . Mr. Pel z stated to the Board that Mr . Ed. Harris had petition- ed him in regard to placing a sign on Main Street during the Liberty Loan Drive. Mr. Peltz moved that the petition for said sign be granted and referred it to the BuildingInspector as to .the placing of said sign. Seconded. by Mr. Taylor so ord- ered. Mr. Dillon, Sup' t of the Light Plant , stated that the Liberty Loan Committee had asked him to turn off all the lights . Mr. Dillon informed the Board that this could not be done with safety. The Board instructed ;.4r. Dillon to turn off all lights that he could with safety. His Honor, W. V . Zimmerman, recommended to the Board to grant Mr. Davis , dity Engineer, a leave of absense for . 90 days , pro- viding. he made necessary arrangements with a competent person to look after his work, during his absense . Mr. Feltz moved that Mr. Davis , City °a_gineer , be granted a leave of absense for 90 days upon the recommendation of l' . W. Zimmerman, Mayor. Seconded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered. Mr. Harry vessel , 5up' t of the Collection of Garbage asked the Board for a leave of absense for 5 days . Mr. Peitz moved that Yr. Wessel' s request be granted , Seconded. by Mr. Taylor so ord- ered. The Board instructed the Engineer to girder the janitor to clean_ out the boiler in the basement of the City Building. Thursday, September 12 , 1918 225 Dr. T . H. Davis, Health Officer , appeared before the Board in regard to some arrangements being made for the heating of the Detention Hospital and also the cleaning of vaults. The Board informed Lr. Lai:i s that the/ would look after these matters. The Board also , on motion, reconsidered their former action in regard to a cement walk at the Detention Hospital and instructed the C ' ty Engineer to lav cut a walk and for the ;street Commissioner to haul cinders for said walk. The City Civil Engineer reported the completion of a contract under l,mprcveme.nt _Lesolution i o. 553-191.8 , for a sanitary sever in the alley between !dorth- est 2d Street and Bunt at . , running from the sewer in vacated ;state street , north 235 feet . On motion, the Board accepted same and ordered an assessment roll prepared. Mr. l'.ob,i)ins , City Attorney , madde an informal rerort in the matters of Gas G:,ueoti or., the Telephone _?ranchi se and the .pater ';:ores° petition filed with the Commission.
