Thursday, August 8 , 1918
The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana
met in regular .session at the office of said Board , Thursday,
August 8, 1918 , at 9 :00 A. M. All of the members of said
Board being present , 'Messrs. Johnson, Taylor and Peltz. The
following proceedings were had, to-wit : -
/he minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved.
Mr. Pelts moved that Mr. John McCalfrey be allowed 50' per
night for cleaning up around the Market House. Seconded by
Mr. Taylor.
Mr. Peitz brought up the matter of trees at West 1st. & Mains
Street . The Board referred this matter to J. F. Thompson, City
Forester . -
The Clerk presented to the Board an order from the Common Coun-
cil authorizing them to purchase two ( 2) Electric Fans to be
installed in the Counci. Chamber. Mr. Peitz moved that the Board
buy one (1 ) Electric Fan and make installation for two ( 2) fans
using the fan from the Board of Works room. Seconded by Mr.
Taylor , so ordered.
The Board accepted the resignation Of Martin Swisher on the
Fire Department and appointed Earl C . Williams as Fireman to
fill the vacancy caused by Mr. Swisher' s resignation.
Mr. Peltz moved that Ike Markley,of the Street patrol system
of the Street Department , wages be increased to ScCl per hour
Seconded by Mr. Taylor.
The Board received bids for the improvement of the Alley be-
tween South 5th & 6th Street from South "A" to "B" , by construct-
ing a cement roadway under Improvement Resolution No. 555-1918 ,
as follows to-wit :
Daniel G. Burkhardt , Bid:
Cement Roadway complete 209f per Sq. Ft .
No other bids being received and Mr. Burkhardt ' s bid being with-
in -the estimate of the City Civil Engineer , Tyr. Peltz moved
that the contract be awarded to Mr. Burkhardt . Seconded by
Mr. Taylor.
The Board received bids for the collecting , removal , delivery
and disposal of garbage and dead animals in the City of I/
Richmond, Indiana.

Mr. Peitz moved that these bids be taken under advisement .
Seconded by Mr. Taylor .
The Board approved and signed the Contract and Bond of The
Stanley Plumbing and Electric Co. , Contractor under Improve-
' ment resolution No. 556-1918.
In pursuance of the request of the Common Council of this
city, His Honor , A. C . Lindemuth, Judge , pro-tem, of the Wayne
Circuit Court , appointed Messrs. Louis E. Stanley, Clarence A.
Kleinknecht , and Harry U . Wood as appraisers to appraise the
Direct ,Current Electrical Machinery belonging to the Municipal
Electric .Lighting & Power Plant of the City of hichmond, Indiana,
with a view of selling same.
The Board received bids for Boilers and Stokers for the Municipal
Electric Light & Power Plant , as follows to-wit : -

After consider_- ing the bids for the collection, removal
delivery and disposal of garbage and dead animals in the City
of Richmond, Indiana, Mr. Peitz moved that the bid of F. E.
Slick of $21,492.00 be accepted , and he be awarded the con-
tract. Seconded by Mr. Taylor., so ordered.
Mr. Peltz moved that the City Lngineer be instructed to
purchase a cement mixer from Isaac Smith for the sum of V
4375.00, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered.
*Mr. Peitz moved that the bids for the Boilers and Stokers _
for the Municipal Electric Light & Power Plant be taken under
advisement , Seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered.
The Board then adjourned.
