HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-05-1918 Office of the Board of Public `forks 209 City of Richmond, Indiana Monday, August 5, 1918 The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond, Indiana , met in regular session at the office of said Board , Monday, August 5, 1918 , at 9 :00 A. M. Two of the members of said Board being present , Messrs. Johnson and Peitz , absent Mr. Taylor. The following proceedings were had, to-wit - The minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved. Mr. Johnson moved that the Board appoint Dr. T. H. Davis as Health Officer to succeed Dr. Geo. B. Hunt until his return —I/ and the appointment referred to the Common Council for their approval . Seconded by Mr. Peitz. On motion the Board recommended to Council to raise the ap- propriation for the Budget to take care of the increase of salaries; for the increase of the salary of the Sup' t of the Parks, from $720.00 to $900.00 a year ; and the salary of the Assistant Civil Engineer Everett L. Davis from,;: 1100.00 to $1200.00 . Mr. Peitz moved that the City Civil Engineer, Mr. Davis be instructed to buy the necessary gravel , cement and other mat- erials for the reconstruction of the Carpenter Dam for the M. E. L. & P. P. Seconded by Mr. Johnson. The Board instructed Mr. Hunt , Sealer of Weights & Measures that they would back him up in the regulating of the City Markets. Mr. Howard Dill appeared before the Board in regard to the sewer on the 10th Street Hill in Sv ring Grove . Mr. Peitz moved that the City Attorney notify the proper officials of Spring Grove that the sewer at the manhole be constructed to meet the approval of the City Engineer., at once. Seconed by Mr. Johnson. Mr. Carpenter appeared before the Board in the interests of Elizabeth Marmon, and informed the Board that he would accept the City' s proposition for the purchase the site of the Car- penter Mill Darn for 02500.00 and we uld give the City a warranty deed for same. The Board instructed the City Controller, Mr. Bescher, to draw • up an Ordinance asking Council to transfer from the City' s part of the Sewer, Streets & Alleys, y`'4200.00 to an account for the purpose of installing a heating plant in the U'ity Building . Mr. Johnson moved that the City Engineer, Mr. Davis , and Mr. Stanley of the Stanley Plumbing & Electric Ca. go to New Castle and in- spect the vacuum pump which said City has for sale and be auth- orized to purchase the pump if it meets the approval of Mr. Davis , providing Council makes the appropriation for the heating plant . Seconded by Mr. Peitz , so ordered . Monday , August 5, 1918 The Board received bids to install a two ( 2) pipe vacuum sys- tem for the purpose of heating the City Hall , under improvement Resolution No. 556-1918as follows to wit : - Stanley Plumbing & Electric Co. , Bid : Contract Complete - - - - - - - - - - -$ 4020.00 Using old boiler already installed , using twenty threee old radiators now on premises. If any old radiators are unfit for use we will furnish new cast iron radiators at the following prices : Three (3) column, 38 inch high, per radiator foot 514. John H. Niewoehner , Bid : Contract Complete }4,885.65 If new packless valves are furnished for the old radiators specified to be used, add to the above price $120.00. If new cast iron radiators are furnished , to replace the old pipe radiators specified to be used , add to the above .named price • $515. 75 . Mr. Peltz moved that the Board take these bids under consid- eration until July 8 , 1918. Seconded by Mr. Johnson. Bills to the amount of $ 5,417 . 77 allowed and ordered paid .
