HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 23-166 - Resolution to establish a drug-free community taskforce within the OLPDSponsored by: Mayor Taylor RESOLUTION NO. 23-166 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER TO ESTABLISH A DRUG -FREE COMMUNITY TASKFORCE WITHIN THE OPA-LOCKA POLICE DEPARTMENT, IN HONOR OF RED RIBBON WEEK; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Red Ribbon Week takes place annually from October 23rd -31st and serves as a prevention awareness campaign against drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and violence; and WHEREAS, the initiative was established after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena who was committed to aiding communities in combating illegal drugs; and WHEREAS, during this campaign week, drug -free resources are disbursed to increase awareness and advocacy; and WHEREAS, the Interim City Manager shall establish a Drug -Free Community Taskforce within the Opa-Locka Police Department to continuously promote the importance of drug -free lifestyles and active participation in drug prevention and reduction efforts within the community for a safer and healthier environment for current and future generations; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that directing the Interim City Manager to establish a Drug -Free Community Taskforce within the Opa-Locka Police Department is in the best interest of the City of Opa-Locka. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby directs the Interim City Manager to establish a Drug -Free Community Taskforce within the Opa-Locka Police Department, in honor of Red Ribbon Week. Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney, without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. PASSED and ADOPTED this 25th day of Octobe , 2123.
