HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-25-1918 Office of the Board of Public Works ,y� City of Richmond, Indiana i.J Thursday, July 25, 1918 The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana met in regular session at the office of said Board, Thursday July 25, 1918, at 9:00 A. M. All of the members of said Board being present , Messrs. Johnson, Taylor and Peltz. The following proceedings were had , to-wit : - The minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved. The Board meets to hear all persons interested in or whose prop- erty is affected by the construction of a cement roadway in the alley between South 5th & 6th Street , from South "A" to South "B" Street under Improvement Resolution No. 555-1918. After hearing all persons interested who appeared and a remonstrance having been filed signed by seven resident. property owners aria upon the advice of the City Civil Engineer that there were 14 resident property owners and as only 7 resident property owners signed the remonstrance therefore not having a majority or the resident property owners signing the remonstrance the Board now over-rules the remonstrance and the Beard decides that the benefits to prop- erty liable to be assessed for said Improvement are equal to the cost of same as reported by the City Civil Engineer .and thereupon take final action on said resolution as originally adopted, the same being confirmed without modification. The Board received bids for the wiring of the greenhouse at the - Glen Miller park, as follows, to-wit : Crane Electric Co . , bid : Office 2-Drop Cords 2-S .P. Snap Switches. Cages 2- " 11 l-S.P. 3-Green Houses , 3-receptacles 3- " Lights to be run back twenty feet from Office. Furnace Room 1-Receptacle, 1-Snap Switch. One 15 Ft. Attachment . Wiring complete except lamps for the sum of 426. 70 Stanley Plumbing and Electric Co. , bid : Work room over tables , 2 center openings , 2 dr{ p cords with key sockets, controlled by S . P. Snap Switch. Animal Cage, 2 center openings , 2 drop cords with key sockets controlled by S. P. Snap Switch. Three Glass flower houses one center opening each Drop Cords with key Sockets , no switch. Basement , one center opening, with drop Ccrd & Key Sockets 25 ft. long. 1/ — The Above wiring Complet for 028.00 Running weather proof wire service from barn to greenhouse with Main- Ciit=out switch, fused. $8.00, Total $36.00 Mr. Johnson moved that the Crane .electric Co. ' s bid I- oceepted and the contract awarded to them. Seconded by Mr. Peitz . - Thursday, July 25, 1918. The Board referred the claim of the Dickinson Trust Co. for 398.08 paid to the M. E. L. & P. P through an error, for the collecting for machinery shipped to McGovern & Co. , No. 114 Liberty Street , New York City, to Mr. Robbins, City Attorney Mr. Dillon, Supt. of Light Plant and Mr. Kleinknecht former Sup' t of the Light Plant to take up with the Dickinson Trust Co. and report to the Board. Mr. Davis, City Engineer paresented specification for the Contract for the collecting, removal, delivery and disposal • of garbage and dead animals in the City of Eichmond , Indiana. Mr. Peitz moved that the Clerk advertise for bids according to specifications. Seconded by Mr . Taylor, so ordered. The Board took up the matter in regard to the purchase of Carpenter' s Dam. Mr. Peitz moved to purchase the Carpenter Tam of Mrs. Marmon through her agent ,. Charles H. Carpenter . for the sum of 2500.00. Seconded by Mr. Taylor . The Board instructed Mr. Davis , City Engineer that as soon as the deed was executed for the Carpenter Dam to go ahead and construct said dam for the Municipal Electric Lighting and Paver Plant . Mr. Pletz moved that the City Engineer be instructed to have • South 5th Street picked and rolled. Seconded by Mr. Taylor . Mr. Dillon, Sup!t of the Light Plant reported to the Board in regard to his trip to Indianapolis to confer with the Public Utilities Commission in regard to furnishing steam to the Light Heat & Power Co. He reported that it was ent- irely up the City to do what they wished in the matter. Mr. Dillon asked the Board to grant him permission to obtain an engineer to go -over a new rate schedule . Mr. Johnson moved that the ►iup' t of the Light Plant Dillon employ some prominent engineer to work up the rate schedule. Seconded by Mr. Feltz . The Board nov, takes up the South 8th Street Improvement under Imporvement Resolution No . 552-1918 in regard to the Traction Co. ' S portion of said. Improvement . Mr. Johnson moved that the City Attorney draw up a contract with the Traction Co. which is to include the points: The Traction Co. is to put in a temporary gravel construction on their portion of the Improvement and one row of brick along each side of the City' s portion and at the expiration of two years they are to improve their portion permanently with brick. Seconded by Mr. Pelts. The Board instructed the City Engineer, Davis to write the Jas. E. McNamara Construction Co. inquir-ing if they would - put in the row of brick abutting the Traction Co.
