HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-08-1918 i r Office of the Board of Public Works , 1 93 City of Richmond , Indiana Monday, July 8 , 1918 The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana met in regular session at the office of said Board , Monday, July 8 , 1918 at 9 :00 A. M. One of the members of said Board being present , Mr. Peltz , absent , Messrs. Johnson and Taylor . The following proceedings were had to-wit : - The minutes of the previous meeting were approved without read- ing. The Clerk presented a petition for the vacation of Smith Street from 1st. Street to 2d Street , signed by A. Harsh. This was referred to the City Civil Engineer for plans. Dr. Hunt , Health Officer, brought up the matter of cutting weeds at the North 10th Street Dump. The Clerk was instructed to not- ify the property owners to have these weeds cut . Mr. Albert Brooks appeared before the Board in the interests of the Starr Piano Company to have First Street picked and rolled from Main Street down to the factory before putting on Tarvia . Mr. Brooks was informed that if this Street was picked there would have to be a binder of sand or gravel put on to hold the stone. Mr. Brooks stated that the Starr Piano Company would furnish - gravel and he would haul same without expense to the city if the • city would pick and roll said Street. The Board instructed Mr. Brooks that if the Starr Piano Co. would pay the demurrage at the rate of D5.00 a day for the car of oil and would furnish gravel and have it put on they would pick and roll First Street from Main Street to the factory. Mr. Brooks stated that the Starr Pianl Company would agree to such a proposition. The City Engineer D. B. Davis was instructed to take this up with the Starr Piano Company and if they agreed to the above proposition, to go ahead with the work. The Mayor , W. W. Zimmerman instructed the Street Commissioner to put no more gravel on North 3d Street just to rick and roll same , and to stop work on Third Street for the present and move the roller down to First Street and pick and roll First Street fro' • Main Street to The Starr Piano Company at once in order to stop demurrage on the Tarvia car. The Board meets to hear remonstrances if any, of persons prim- arily assessed on account of construction of a cement roadway in the alley between North 15th and 16th Street from North "4" to "B" Street under Improvement Resolution No. 544-1918. Only one member of the Board being present , final action was posponed until Thursday, July 11, 1918 at 9 :00 A. M. Monday, Yuly 8 , 1918 The Board meets to hear remonstrances , if any, of persons primarily assessed on account of the construction of a-cement sidewalk, five ( 5) foot wide on both sides of North 1TA" Street from North lfsth to North 19th Street , under Improvement Reso- lution No. 550-1918. There being only one member of the Board present , final action was posponed until Thursday, July 11 , 1918. at 9 :00 A. M. Bills to the amount of 7825.42 were allowed and ordered paid. 11/ The Board approved the various payrolls up to July' 1,: 1918 .
