HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-01-1918 I Office of the Board of Public Works , 191 City of Richmond, Indiana, Monday, July 1, 1918 The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana met in regular session at the office of said Board, Monday July 1, 1918 a.t 9 :00 A. M. Two of the members of said Board being present , Messrs. Taylor and Peltz , absent , Mr. Johnson. The following proceedings were had to-wit : The minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved. Mr. Pinnick brought up the matter in regard to changing a fountain at North 18th and "0" St. to some other location. Mr. Peitz moved that the City Engineer cut off this fountain for the present. Seconded by Mr. Taylor. the Board also instructed Mr. Davis, City Engineer to cut out the fountain at South 10th & "C" Street for repairs. Mr. Peitz brought up the matter of repairing North -15th & 16th Streets between "F"& "G". This was referred to the City Engineer. The Mayor , W. W. Zimmerman brought up the matter in regard to repairing North 3d Street stating that the Street Commissioner was putting on too much material on this Street. Mr. Peltz moved that the City xAngi.neer take up the matter personally in regard to repairing the Street and for the Street Commissioner to get all his positive instructions as to the amount of mat- erial to be used on the Streets from the City Engineer. Sec- onded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered. Mr. Taylor brought up the matter in regard to the proposition of the City buying the Carpenter mill dam for the-Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant . Mr. Taylor moved that the City Attorney draw up a written proposition to give to Mr. Carpenter to present to Walter Marmon in re gard to this matter. Seconded by Mr. Peltz. The Mayor, W. W. Zimmerman instructed the Board in regard to his trip to Columbus , Ohio, in the interests of the City in regard to the Natural Gas supply next winter, stating that he was informed that we could not get Natural Gas at any price next Winter as the Company would be unable to supply any more if as much gas as was furnished last winter. Mr. Peitz moved that the expenses of the Mayor to Columbus , Ohio be allowed and paid. Seconded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered.11/ • Mr. Dillon brought up the matter of putting back on the pa_; roll two linemen previously let off. The Board instructed Mr. Lillon to put these/back on if necessary. men The Clerk presented a complaint of Chas.Bolinger = in regard to a sidewalk on State Street , between Sheridan and Boyer Streets, where the Water Works Co. cut through the sidewalk to repair a pipe. The Board referred this to the City Engineer. Monday, July 1, 1918 . The Mayor , W. W. Zimmerman brought up the matter of the Juv- enile War Markets , claiming that the children were selling other produce than that raised themselves and this was not the idea in granting the privilege of holding these- markets and that complaints had b-een made by people attending these markets that they find all the produce reserved before the opening hour. Mr. Peltz moved that nothing be sold at these markets but the produce raised by the children in their war gardens , and the practice of reserving this produce be stopped and nothing re- served or sold before the opening hour-4 :00 o' clock, so as to give everyone who attends the markets an equal. show, and the Clerk instructed to notify Mr. Murphy of the action of theI/ Board. Seconded by Mr. Taylor. Mr. Peltz moved that Mr. Hunt , the Market Master take care of the County inspection of weights and measures. Seconded by • Mr. Taylor. The Clerk read a letter from the National Septic Process Pro- tective League. The Board referred this letter to the City Attorney to make a report as soon as possible. The Board unanimously adopted Improvement Resolution No . 555- 1918, to improve the alley between South 5th & 6th, by con- structing a cement roadway the full width of the alley from South "A" to South "B" Street except that portion already con- structed in good condition. Mr. Peltz moved that Mr. Hollarn, Sup' t . of Parks purchase a 5'x 8' U . S. flag for the Glen Miller Park. Seconded by Mr. Taylor, sc ordered. Mr. Peltz moved that I;ir. Hunt , Health Officer, instruct the Street Commissioner to clean up the lot at the west of the Market House once a week and clean up around all rublic hitch- • ing racks every Sunday Morning and repair and fill up holes in the street at the hitching rack at the corner of 11th & Main. Seconded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered, The Board approved the primary assessment Roll of benefits and damages in the matter of vacating the first alley South of North "ems" Street between Lots #10-11 of the Jas. K. Dug- dale' s Add. running from North 3d Street to the first Alley West running North and south also the Alley between North 2d and 3d Street , running from North "A" Street South to the Alley running East to North 3d Street under declaratory Resolution #120-1918.
