M. TWO of the members of -said • Board being present , -Messrs. Johnson and Feltz , absent Mr. Taylor. The following proceedings were had to-wit : - The minutes of previous meeting read and were approved. Mr. Davis informed the Board that dr . Burkhardt agreed to bring -- his bid on Improvement nesolutiori 550-1918 down to the City Civil Engineer' s estimate. Mr. Peitz moved that Yr. Burkhardt ' s bid be" accepted and that he be awarded the contract . Seconded by Tar. Johnson. - Mr . Peitz brought ur the ouestion of putting Tarvia on the street: Mr. Davis informed the Board that enough petitions would have to be " in to make up a carload of Tarvia before they could- or- der same . Mr. Feltz informed the Board that rigs were running at larr e in the East End near the Athletic Park. The Board ordered "the Clerk to notify The Police Department in regard _to this matter and for them to take action. Mr. Johnson brought before the Board the matter of -capering , putting in extra lights and telephones at the Detention ros- it- al. The Board decided to go out to the Hospital and investigate and see just what was actually needed . The Board took up the matter of a store room being establi shed • for supplies of the different derartment s . Mr. Johnson moved that the heads of departments in buying supplies make out on order and have it signed by any member ,of the Board of Public V,orks before ordering same . 1 74 Monday, May 27 , 1918 . Mr. Fi.nnick brought up the matter of cleaning vaults and making vault connection with the serer. Mr. Feltz moved this be re- ferred to the Board of Health and the City Attorney. Mr . Peltz asked the Board in regard to smoke ordinance . Mr. Miller, Chief of the Fire Department , informed the Board that he had taken this matter up with the American Seeding Machine Company, The Starr Piano Works and the Wayne dorks . the dif- ferent companys informed him that most of the smoke their fac- tories made came from burning the off-falls . - After some dis- t cussion by the Board they concluded that as the Government was running the railroads and as India.n;^ Coal was being used to a great extent they decided that they could do nothing in regard to the matter under the present conditions . Mr. Billion appeared before the Board asking for and approp- riation of il5,000.00 for coal at the Light Plant . Mr. Peltz moved that the-city Attorney draw up an Ordinance for Appro- priation for 445 ,000.00 for the Light Plant coal fund and pre- sent to Council . Seconded by Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson brought up the matter in regard to the dam at the Light Plant. Mr. Davis , City Engineer informed the Board that Mr. Carpenter agreed to rut the dam at his mill site in good condition and let the City take rater Prom his race . Mr. Peitz moved that the_ l'oard take this matter ur with Mr. Carr- enter and that he be net _ fi ed to meet with the _e.7er City t- 4 torney, City Civil •vngincer and. The Boa. rd of rublie .Forks in regard to this matter . The yoar.d approved and signed a petition of Daniel S . Van 'Et- ten granting him permission to cut a ten-foot drivewc 7 in the curb in front of the property at the North - ast corner of 10th and North "J" street . All work to be done at the petitioners eTpense and in accordance with the standard specifi cati ns for such work, subject to the in ire cti :n of the City Civil .ng- • in_eer.
