The Board of Public forks of the City of _iichmond, Indiana
met in regular session at the office of the said Board ,
Thursday May 23, 1918 , at 9 : 00 o' clock, A. M. Two of the
members of said Board being present , Messrs. Taylor & Peitz ,
absent , Mr. Johnson. The foll evi ng proceedings were had

Minutes of the previous meeting read and were approved.
The Clerk read a letter from The Harris Trust & Savings Bank,
concerning Bonds for Municipal purposes . The Board ordered
. this filed for future reference .
The Clerk presented complaints made at The Council Meeting
May 20, 1918 , to the Board. The Board referred these com-
• rlaints to the Street Commissioner.
J. P. Billion, Sup' t of the Light Plant, reported to the
Board the sale of five , 5K. U. scrap transformers to the
amount of25.CC .
Mr. Taylor reported to the Board the sale of old harness to
the amount of 8 .00.

At the request e' the Mayor the Clerk presented to the Board
President :';;ilson' s order that the Italian Flag be flown from
all Federal Bui ldi r_--s , Friday, May 24 , 1918 , the anniversary
of Italy' s entrance into the War . The Mayor suggested that
the Board try to ic obtain an Italian flag and place on the City

• Miller to obtain the flag and place same on the building.
Seconded by Er. Taylor .
• The Board meets to hear all persons interest in or whose pro-
; pert.y is affected by Improvement lesolution 553-1918 , to con-
struct a sanitary sewer in the alley between North West 2d..
and Hunt - streets running from sewer in. vacated State street
•
north 235 feet . After hearing all persons appearing and no
remonstrances having been filed the Board decided that the
benefits to property liable to be assessed for said improve-
ment are equal to the cost of same as reported 'may the City
Civil Bngineer, and thereupon take final action on said reso-
lution , the same being confirmed without modi ficati cn.
I/ . Mr. Peitz moved that the Board should reconsider its action
of Monday, May 16 , 191e in regard to improvement 1..esolution
551-1918 , in order to get this improvement in the groper
form to present to The Council. Seconded by Mr. Taylor.
The Board takes up Improvement resolution 551-1918 and after
careful consideration of the petition and remonstrance on rile
and being properly infomed in regard to this imrrovecemt the
Board decides that the benefits to prcperty- liable to be as-
sessed for said improvement are ecua1 to the estimated cost
of the same as reverted by the City Civil Bngineer , thereu-oon
takes final action on said r esoluti en as originally adopted.

the same being confirmed without modification. The remonst-
rance on file having been signed by a majority of the res-
ident property owners against said improvement„ The .Board can
proceed no further in the matter of said improvement unless
authorized by Ordinance , passed by a two-thirds vote of the
Common Council and approved by the Mayor . Mr . Peitz then •
moved that the matter of said improvement be referred to the
Common Council in the form of an Ordinance for their consid-
eration. 5eccnded by -r. Taylor . The question then being
upon the adoption of the motion of Feltz , Messrs . Feltz and
Taylor voting aye . The motion of Feltz was declared adopted .
Mr. Davis presented to the Board a complaint of trees stop-
ping up the sewers. These. trees are located on lot No . 1 of
The J. M. Laws' axidition and lot No . 6 of the V . L. Brady' s
addition on North 5th street . Mr. Feltz moved that the Clerk
neti_fy Lynn/Hayes. to remove these Poplar trees within ten days
Seconded by Mr . Taylor . •
Mr. I)illion reported the condition of the sidewalk at 308 Main
street . The Board ordered Mr . Davis to repair this sidewalk :.
and present the bill o The Dougan & Jenkins Co . , Mr. Hiatt ' s •
bondsmen.
X, Mr. Peitz moved that the bid of the Turnbull Motor Truck &
Wagon Co. , for the 12 Ton Motor Chassis for w1360 .00 and the
Cab and Curtain Equipment for $40.00 , Presto Lights and Tank
y25.00 be- accepted and the contract awarded, and Clerk
ordered to notify them at once: Seconded by Mr. Taylor .
Mr . Taylor moved that the Janitor get the assistance of anoth •
-
er man to clean all wood-work and furniture in all rooms' of
The City Building, to be started Monday, lay 27 , 1918 begin-
ning with the Council Chamber. Seconded by Mr. Peitz . •
The Board received bids for the Improvement of North "A" street
by constructing a cement sidewalk, 5 feet wide on both sides
of said street from Norht 18th street to North 19th street .
Under Improvement 550-1918 as follors , to-wit :

Daniel G. Burkhardt,• 'bif 17' per square foot .
No other bids being received and Mr. Burkhardt ' s bid being
above the estimate of the City Civil Engineer , Mr. Feltz moved
that if Mr . Burkhardt would bring his hid down to the estimate
of the City Civil .-nggineer the Board would accept it and if
he would not it would be rejected . Seconded by Mr. Taylor.
• The Board unanimously adopted Declaratory iiesolution 120-1918
of the vacation of the first alley south of North ."LI" street
between lots 10 & 11 in the J. K. Dugdale ' s addition running from
north 3d street to the `'i rst alley west , running north and
south, also the alley between 1.. 2d arid. 3d streets running from
North "A" south to alley running east to North 3d street in
Thursday, May 23, 1918 .

alley proposed to be vacated is more particularly described as

The Board then adjourned.

The Board of Public Works of the City of -Liehmond, Indiana
met in regular session at the office of the said. Board , Monday,
May 27 , 1918 at 9 :00 o' clock A. M. TWO of the members of •said
Board being present , Messrs. Johnson and. Feltz , absent Mr. Taylo3
The following proceedings were had to-wit : -
The minutes of previous meeting read and were approved.
Mr. Davis informed the Board that Mr . Burkhardt agreed to bring
- his bid on improvement resolution 550-1918 down to the City Civil
Engineer' s estimate . Mr. Peitz moved that Mr. Burkhardt ' s bid
be• accepted and that . he be awarded the contract . Seconded by
Mr . Johnson.
- .: r . Peltz brought up the ouest i on of putting Tarvia on the strut:
Mr. Davis informed the Board that enough petitions would have
• to be in to make up a carload of Tarvia before they could- or-
der same.
Mr. Peitz informed the Board that wigs were running at large
in the East End near the Athletic Park. The Board ordered the
• Clerk to notify The Police Department in regard to this matter
and for them to take action.
Mr. Johnson brought before the Board the matter of -capering ,
putting in extra lights and telephones at the Detention Hospit-
a,l. The Board decided to go out to the Hospital and investigate
and see just what was actually needed . •
The Board took up the matter of a store room being established
for supplies of the di fferent departments . Mr. Johnson moved
that the heads cf departments in bu iinir- supplies make out En
order and have it signed. by an-i member •of the Board of Public
• Vorks before ordering same .
